Floating Floor, Labor Cost?

Featured Replies

A while back we had a floating bamboo floor installed, it was not done professionally. Over the course of time it's apparent it was installed correctly as gaps and ridges have formed. We recently contacted someone we trust to correct the issues and he gave us a quote of $400. So far they've worked on the issue for approximately 8 hours, and will need to follow up for completion. I'm not sure how much longer it will take for completion and my wife believes we should add $200 additional. I don't want to offer any additional until I figure the number of hours spent.

How much per the hour should one expect to pay for this type of work? They have had to make a few cuts here and there but most of their work consisted up pulling up the 500 square feet and correcting the padding issue below.

This flooring should probably cost you about $5 to $7 per square foot, less installation to put down. Assuming you have between $2,500 and $3,500 in your material costs, your current installation is costing you about $.80 / ft. That is a steal.

I would estimate that you would have closer to $1.25 / ft for installation on the low end and upwards of $2.00 / ft is probably closer. For 500 sq ft of this type flooring, given that it is a re-work on another contractor's work, I would think $1.50 / $1.75 a ft would be in the range.

Just my opinion. One thing to remember, anytime you have a contractor come to clean up another contractor's mess....it will cost you.
