Bowling Green 77 Franklin Simpson 59 (4th Region Semifinals)

Final from Diddle. Purples rolling at this point, and the championship game tomorrow should be a foregone conclusion. Still think it's an absolute joke that Dee Spencer wins region coach of the year when DG sherrill has won near 50 4th region games in a row. Nice games from Lovan, Harmon, Wilson, and Taylor. Great crowd tonight as well with about 5k in attendance.

Sadly sometimes people get used to success and don't appreciate what's being done when it's done on a consistent basis. Totally agree DG is COY.

Bob Pels is COY in my opinion. No one saw that Greenwood team coming and without their two best players removing themselves with their choices they're still playing. DG has done a fantastic job as well, and I agree, coaches typically don't get recognized when they're expected to do well and then do. But I was blown away with the job Pels did.

Franklin put a run into Bowling Green at times, but they needed a better start than they got. They had to play from behind, and you can't do that in the 4th against Bowling Green - that's when they make it happen. Franklin got within 4 and 5 points on two occasions, but couldn't close it all the way down. Primarily, they couldn't get stops when they needed it. I felt the decisive turn was one of those times they got close, Jones hits a basket and goes to the line. Misses it, Taylor gets the rebound, and hits the shot, plus a foul. Franklin just got outworked in moments like that, and when you are already outtalelented, you can't get outworked too.

Dragon you may know this, when Riley won those 6 regions in a row, how many years was he coach of the year?

During the six year run Riley was named COY twice - the first year, and the last. The first year Central was not as well regarded entering the year, and I believe were picked sixth in the Cats Pause rankings. They lost one region game (hosed btw) and finished 28-4. That one was a slam dunk. The last one felt almost like a lifetime achievement. It was like giving Return of the King the best picture award, it was an acknowledgement of an incredible run. He deserved it most for 2005 when they lost those four starters from the state champs and won it again anyway, but he got neither that one nor the statewide award when he took them back to the title game.

Sherrill is about to reel in his sixth region title. He's won COY twice at Bowling Green and only once in a year they won region. (He also won one at Allen Co.-Scottsville - ironically for this discussion, it was the year Warren Central won state.)
