The Purples got a rude wake up call on the first play from scrimmage when Andrew Burton caught an 80 yd TD pass. Must've done more than just wake up the Purples!! Ryan Wallace, junior TE, scored his first varsity TD on a pass from Trent Steelman with 9:12 left in the first qtr. Steelman struck again on a one yd run at 4:42 left in the first to go up 14-7.

In the second qtr, the Purples really set sail. Senior Ryan Beard snagged his first scoring pass of the year from Steelman at 11:39 left in the first half. With the PAT, senior Matt Simpson hit his third in a row, and the Purples were up 21-7. At the 10:16 mark, senior RB Anthony Davis caught a scoring pass from six yds out. Simpson hit the PAT again, and the Purples were up 28-7.

Senior Avery Hibbitt took off on a 39 yd jaunt with 7:33 left in the half, Simpson hit the PAT, and the Purples were up 35-7. Senior RB Chris Johnson ran it in from 14 yards out with 5:42 left in the first half, Simpson was successful again, and the Purples were up 42-7. Davis scored his second TD of the quarter as time ran out on a pass from Steelman from 27 yards out, Simpson good again, and the Purples were up 49-7 at the end of the first half.

It only took the first play from scrimmage to kick the running clock in as Hibbitt broke one for 60 yards. Soph Max Oldham (the grandson of former WKU great basketball coach John Oldham) booted the PAT, and the Purples were up 56-7. Then Chris Johnson scored on a 31 yd run with 5:02 left in the third qtr. Oldham again booted the PAT and the Purples were up 63-7.

In the fourth qtr, Freshman Lavance Anderson scored his first varsity TD on a four yd run with 10:04 left in the game, with Oldham booting the PAT again, and the Purples led 70-7. Finally, soph Tevin Barksdale ran it in from 10 yards and Oldham knocked the PAT through again. This score came with less than two minutes left to end the scoring parade and the Purples storm through their first district game 77-7.

Have a happy Homecoming week, BGHS!!! And while you're at it, whip Adair Co to go to 2-0 in district play!  :D

I'll do a twist for Homecoming Night!!:dancingpa :dancingpa

Sounds like Logan County just about gave them a red carpet to the endzone.

I've been dying to tell you, Ram, that I LOVE that avatar you have!!!:thumb: If people are going to keep calling your proud Alma Mater "Manuel", why not have some fun with it? Pure genius!!:D

There were a few short field TDs interspersed in there, I have to admit. What I didn't point out was that Steelman threw an interception on BGHS's first drive, so it wasn't just the defense that got peppered at the first of the game by the coaching staff. But when they got their wake up call, they did quite well. I'm proud of how they responded!:D

Just got some numbers and did some research. The 77 pts put up on the board by the Purples was the fourth highest total in school history, and only eight points shy of the all-time team record of 85 put on Glasgow in 1932.

The 70 pt win margin is tied for fourth all time with the 70 pt margin against Adair Co last year (70-0). I am sure proud of Ryan Wallace, our junior TE and Kevin's son...his first scoring snag went for 56 yards!!:ylsuper: According to the numbers, the Purples ran up 586 total yards in the game, and junior QB Trent Steelman had 236 yards passing...all in the first half, and only 16 yards shy of our all-time record of 252 yards by Joe Bill Campbell against Hopkinsville in 1960. Avery Hibbitt averaged close to 20 yards per carry! The Purples scored on all 11 possessions on the night.

I know that we are now in our weak part of our schedule, but as long as the guys push themselves to get better like they did last year, things will be fine!:D

I guess the Logan County fans don't have any BGP members or this thread would be full of "running up the score" debate. I wonder why that sort of debate seems to be reserved for only certain offenders?

I'd say in the western part of the state, most of us understand that the score doesn't tell the whole story.

In this case, I talked to several people who were at the game, and not one said BG ran up the score. They said Logan was just outmatched.

No, the score was not run up at all. Logan Co played their hearts out and the coach was placing in freshman....PH will correct me I am sure, but, I believe every player played...it seemed like it listening to the radio anyway!

Wow the purples have it going!

I'm not going to dignify that statement other than to say that people and coaches who know BGHS Football know that this program doesn't run the score up on anybody. As I stated earlier, Steelman got all of his passing yards in the first half. He played one offensive play in the second half...and Avery Hibbitt got his 60 yd TD run on that play. That's when the blowout rule kicked in. The vast majority of starters came out at this time. When the freshman Anderson scored, we had a QB in who weighs maybe 130 lbs soaking wet. Tevin Barksdale, who scored the final TD, is a soph.

We don't go out of our way to humiliate other teams. Last year, when we led Breckinridge Co and they had their third injury of the night, both coaches decided to end the game at that point and the final was 56-0.
