Inside the 7th Region (12/12/16)

Featured Replies

The beginning of the season hasn't brought much change to the 7th Region rankings but things are definitely different at this time. Trinity is still without the services of possible Player of the Year in Jacob King but have still mostly been playing up to expectations. Waggener just found out that they will likely be without the services of Devin Cooper so they now know what lies ahead for them this season. St. Xavier and Central haven't gotten off to the starts they want but we haven't even gotten to Christmas yet so this is not the time to panic. Ballard has gotten off to a strong start this season but their first real tests of the season lie ahead. Can Louisville Collegiate earn some respect and knock off one of the 7th Region powers this season? A lot of fun lies ahead in the 7th Region this season!!!

1. Trinity(3-1)

Despite a recent loss to Fern Creek, Trinity is still the #1 team in the 7th Region for the time being. They have victories over Pulaski County, Bardstown and Seneca. The loss to Fern Creek is their only blemish so far this season and they are still without the services of Jacob King. Lucas Burkman leads the team in scoring at 16.3 points a game. Jay Scrubb is next at 15 points a game. Trinity will face Manual this week and will begin the King of the Bluegrass tournament against Cooper.

2. Ballard(3-0)

Ballard sits at 3-0 so far with wins over Atherton, Manual and Christian Academy-Louisville. Ballard's season has gotten off to the start we all expected and are led in scoring by Jamil Wilson's 17 points per game. Clivonte Patterson is scoring 16 points a game and Tyron Duncan is scoring 10 points a game. Ballard will face defending state champion, Dunbar, in the King of the Bluegrass this weekend.

3. St. Xavier(3-2)

St. X got off to a 3-0 start this season and then ran into a buzzsaw named Covington Catholic. The next day they were defeated by Newport Central Catholic as they now sit at 3-2 on the season. Pierce Kiesler leads the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game. Next up for St. X will be Waggener, Atherton and John Paul College, Australia.

4. Waggener(3-2)

Waggener was recently hit with the news that Devin Cooper was ruled ineligible for the 2016-17. While that is bad news for Waggener the show must go on and they have enjoyed victories over Manual, Shawnee and Atherton and lost two games to Valley and Hopkinsville. Jacquess Hobbs leads the team in scoring at 19.8 points per game and Ethan Taylor is chipping in 13.8. Waggener will face St. Xavier and Bullitt East this week.

5. Central(1-2)

Central is off to a 1-2 start and will be looking to improve on that as the season moves forward. They have dropped games to St. Xavier and Covington Catholic and have a victory over Shawnee. Don't let their record fool you though. Central will be a tough game for teams to play and will be above the .500 mark sooner rather than later. Central will face Portland Christian, Pleasure Ridge Park and Eastern this week.

6. Male(3-1)

Male is off to a great start this season as they have victories over Seneca, Clinton County and North Oldham. They dropped a game to Madison Central this past weekend and are led in scoring by Hogan Brownley's 15.3 points per game. Male will face Fern Creek and Mason County this week.

7. Eastern(2-1)

Eastern has enjoyed victories over Jeffersontown and Henry Clay and lost their opener to North Hardin. Caleb Williams leads the team with his 15.3 points per game and Javen Rushin is right behind him with 14.3 points per game. Next up for Eastern is Fairdale, Central and Southwestern.

8. Kentucky Country Day(3-2)

KCD has had victories over Seneca, Bullitt East and Blanchester(OH) and dropped games to Spencer County and Pleasure Ridge Park. Led by Anthony Mathis' 26.8 points per game and Solomon Mathis' 17.8 points per game, KCD will take on CAL and Atherton this week.

9. Christian Academy-Louisville(2-2)

CAL has victories over Eminence and Shelby County and have lost to South Oldham and Ballard. They are led by Parker Jones and his 20 points per game, Kenneth Purvis at 17.3 points per game and Michael Woodward at 13.5 points per game. CAL will face KCD, Whitefield Academy and Louisville Collegiate this week.

10. Manual(1-3)

At 1-3 Manual almost didn't make the top 10 this week but with losses to Waggener, Ballard and a resurgent Jeffersontown team they are given the benefit of the doubt. For now. Their one win came over Portland Christian and they are led in scoring Brendan Williams and his 12.3 average and Jordan McClendon and his 10.8 points per game. Manual will face Trinity this week.

11. Louisville Collegiate(5-2)

Louisville Collegiate currently has one of the best records in the region. Ryan McDaniel leads the team in scoring with his 17.5 points per game average. Barrett Myers is scoring 15.8 points a game and Tyler McDaniel is scoring 10.8 points a game. Next up for Collegiate is Western and CAL.

12. Seneca(0-6)

Seneca has yet to win a game this season and are looking to secure their first victory. Keyontez Leach is scoring 15.4 points a game and will lead Seneca into games against Brown and Moore this week.

13. Atherton(1-5)

Atherton's lone victory came over Moore and they are led in scoring by Flynn Calnon's 19.6 points a game. Atherton will face North Oldham, St. Xavier, Frederick Fraize and Grayson County this week.

14. St. Francis(3-2)

St. Francis is off to a good start and are looking to go to 4-2 as they face Eminence this week.

15. Brown(3-3)

Brown is sitting at .500 right now and are led in scoring by Jared Fife and his 18.3 points, Collin Bynum at 11.3 and Hashim Abdur-Rahman at 10.0. Brown will face Senece, Eminence and Bullitt Central this week.

16. Shawnee(0-5)

Shawnee has yet to win a game this season and look to change that as they will face Glasgow this week.

17. Portland Christian(2-3)

Portland Christian has two wins this season and is led in scoring by Quincy Dye and his 27.5 points a game which looks to lead the 7th Region in scoring. Michael Merideth is chipping in 10.0 points a game and Central is up next this week for Portland Christian.

FYI - It's Jay Scrubb for Trinity, not Grubb.

My bad. Not sure where I got Grubb from.

Haha, I figured it was autocorrect.

Nah. Brain fart. I was on the laptop. No clue where I got Grubb from especially when I was looking right at his name. :lol2:

Great article. I haven't been to a single basketball game yet this year but I'm hoping to catch some of the King of the Bluegrass coming up.

The KOB is going to be awesome this year. I hate I won't be able to make any games. This is absolutely the year to go. The organizers did a fantastic job this year with the teams involved in this year's tourney. IMO this will be the best tourney of the season.
