The top 20:

KY-1 Madison Central

KY-3 Trinity (Louisville)

KY-4 Covington Catholic

KY-5 Paul Laurence Dunbar

KY-6 Lafayette

KY-7 St. Xavier

KY-8 Oldham County

KY-9 Mercer County

KY-10 South Oldham

KY-11 DuPont Manual

KY-12 Ryle

KY-13 South Warren

KY-14 Henry Clay

KY-15 Bowling Green

KY-16 Ballard

KY-17 Woodford County

KY-18 Lexington Catholic

KY-19 Montgomery County

KY-20 Hopkinsville

This early in the season I think it's hard to comment on this stuff until we have a few more games between the top 20 teams and some of the teams not yet mentioned on this poll.

Nky is a little lite this year in the rankings deservedly so but it does look like cov cath and Ryle are definitely in the mix.

Agree very early for this, but can someone please explain this. How does the preseason #8 jump to #1 with a tie to #5 and wins Vs the #31 and #51. And the preseason #1 fall to #4 with 3 straight wins, in the first week?

Madison Central preseason # 8

Tied #5 PL Dunbar

Beat #33 Boyle Co

Beat #51 Scott Co.

Jumps to #1

CCH preseason # 1

Beat #30 St Henry

Beat #21 KCD

Beat # 43 Campbell Co

Falls to #4

Did a kid name Messi enroll at Madison Central last week… do other factors (besides W-L-T) go into these rankings?

Not sure that Ryle has been tested much yet but that will change tomorrow vs Moeller. If they can hang with them then I'd say they are for real. I think Moeller has a pretty solid team this year. CCH has had a slightly tougher schedule to date than Ryle but they have a cupcake tomorrow in Scott and then they should find out more against Walnut Hills and Elder, although both are down this year.

Maher factors in whether game was away or home, Maher rating of each team, and score of each game. Madison Central tied a higher ranked team in PLD away (0-0) and beat two lower ranked teams away 4-0 and 6-0. All of CovCath's games were home and two of the wins were by a single goal. It'll sort out over time and CovCath's strong schedule means they'll have lots of opportunity to stay high in rankings. Plus, this year quality results against Ohio teams will posively affect Maher rating as well (whereas they weren't factored in last year). I think there is some material that explains what factors Maher considers. It's not a coaches or fans poll; no subjectivity; it just crunches numbers and churns out a results.

Thank you for the explanation Sir. I'm not blaming the messenger nor telling Maher how do conduct their system. I'm just one that does not like a system that rewards a team for "beating up" (running up the score) on an inferior opponent.

I do like the fact this year Maher will be factoring in results Vs OH teams. Arguably some of the NKY teams' toughest opponents are Summit, Anderson, and Moeller.

Madison Central did not get a Messi but they do have a rock solid defense in Carney, Britton, Mcguire and Resieg. Thus far the TEAM approach is what's making it happen. No messi, All TEAM! ALL TOGETHER!

No worries cov cath will be able to make their statement for #1 with Trinity,Ballard and Madison central on the schedule.

#1 ranking would just make that bullseye a little bigger, a little brighter.

Bullseye is always bigger on your own back and it is a pretty difficult schedule with 9 of the top 20 on schedule over the next few weeks.

Good luck to All the boys!

Madison Central has 9 of top 20 teams on their schedule over the next few weeks?

I believe they play 9 of the "current top 20" over the course of this season.

Should prove to be a tough schedule.

S.warren, Lafayette, mercer, bowling Green, cov cath, woodford, lex cath and Montgomery. It's gonna be a tough ride . My bad 8

All I have to say is there are a lot of quality teams out there and nothing really matters until Oct.-Nov.

Should be a fun ride for all.
