The defending 4A state champions open their title defense riding a 15 game win streak, and will line up across the field from their one-time nemesis Monroe County. The two teams were district mates in 3A for the first four years of South Warren's existence, and developed a bitter rivalry, albeit one not marked with many close games. Monroe seemed to prove that South wasn't ready for the big-time in their regular season meeting in 2012, a 41-0 pasting that was marred with bad blood on both sides. South's spirited effort in a 20-10 region final victory for Monroe that year was the first hallmark of a turning of the tide, something that was nailed home when South blew the doors off by a combined 102-22 score the last two years these teams met. Which is exactly how this year should go. South has a lot of experience they are replacing - can Monroe County keep it close for any length of time?
