USA Volleyball releases HP 2016 players

Featured Replies

Notice USA Volleyball has released their girls HP players for Ft. Lauderdale games 2016.

Looks like 3 players from Northern KY Volleyball, and 2 players from Audubon AVA, in the Pioneer Region.

Errors first time

Below are the girls in the Pioneer Region who made it. One girl from the OVR made the Womens Junior Continental Team but she was from Columbus. Metzger is the only one I'm certain who is playing varsity in NKY.

WOMENS JUNIOR DIVISION - Girls Born 1998 & 1999 - (11th , 12th, or Freshman in college)

2016 USA Women's Junior Continental Team Program

Jordan Coomes, Setter, 2017, Pioneer Region, Audubon Volleyball Association, Owensboro, KY

YOUTH DIVISION - Girls Born 2000 & 2001 - ( 9th , 10th, or 11th )

2016 USA Girls' Youth A1 National Training Team Program

Leah Metzger, Libero , 2019 , Pioneer Region , Northern Kentucky Junior Volleyball, Erlanger, KY, Dixie Heights High School

2016 USA Girls' Youth Continental Team Program

Cayce Chaykowsky , Libero, 2018, Pioneer Region, Audubon Volleyball Association, Owensboro, KY

SELECT DIVISION - Girls Born 2002 & 2003 - (7th, 8th, or 9th )

2016 USA Girls' Select A1 National Training Team Program

Abigail Powers, Middle Blocker, 2021, Pioneer Region, Nkyvc, Not Sure where she’s from or where she will attend HS. She's an 8th grader.

I still don't understand the reasoning behind sending your child to HP. I can sort of understand Metzger, because her club doesn't play at the open level and she wants to get her name out. I get that. I get the Audubon players because they're also trying to get their names out. Nkyvc players I don't get. If your team plays at the open level, you shouldn't need HP. Maybe you just want to experience it once and your parents don't care about money, but at 13 years old, I personally see no reason to.

Agree completely. These teams are a money grabbing scam by USA Volleyball unless you are on the top team.

And you both had kids participate in the program, correct?

Most people who say such things in my experience have kids who didn't make the team they thought they deserved or weren't on one of the Elite teams. Ask Morgan Hentz if it was a money grab.

Every Kid who has attended HP camps that I've spoken to has said that they benefited from the experience. 90% couldn't wait to repeat the experience. The 10% who did not chose not to try again because they realized their Olympic aspirations weren't going to come true and could better spend their money elsewhere.

I admit that the A2 & A3 level are a glorified camp to a certain extent, but at each one players compete against girls from across the country of the same level, and these kids get recruited for college as well. Maybe not to top 25 Division 1 volleyball teams, but mid-major on down. At the A1 or National Team level the kids who attend these camps are elite athletes from around the country.

If NKYVC is stupid for encouraging their kids to participate then so are these other teams that have kids in the YNT and A1 program. Most of them are part of the who's who in club volleyball.

Well said Sandman32. Nailed it :)

I spoke with a couple parents who have daughters in 13/14s and they stated this is their daughters first experience in going away. The hope that it allowed them to get a small glimpse of what is out here and to how they will handle being away for a week or how every long it is.

Sounds like a pretty cool experience.

I'll be interested to hear their perspective on the experience.

Spoke with 2 families who, rising 9th grade girls from Pioneer, just finished the "USA Volleyball National Skill Camp" in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Absolutely loved it... Both said they learned a lot, were challenged.
