Through 8 innings Cooper had stranded 7 runners on 5 base hits, 3 SOLID ropes by 8th grader, Kayari Suganuma (BTW folks, she's the real deal!!!). The Breds had stranded a total of 6 runners on 4 base hits in that same stretch, and it wasn't from a lack of hitting the ball hard, as much as it was hitting at the wrong person.....Kayari Suganuma was UNBELIEVABLE!!!! 5 putouts and 7 assist, with some plays that made you think it was Haley Coffey or Maclai Branson out there.

 

NewCath had bases loaded and no out in the bottom of the 7th, but a FC6 (out recorded 6-2), FO8 and Lexy Breen out 8-2 tagging up on a beautiful throw by Hailey Nicholas.

 

Now the rain starts to fall.........

 

Cooper 9th - Hailey Nicholas leads off with a flare, that I'm still trying to figure out how Haley Meyers doesn't catch:idunno:, and goes for a gift infield single, Alex Dummit lays down a bunt that Meyers bare hands, then drops and the throw is a hair late. Cayla Petrowski walks, Taylor Keener RBI walk....K, FC5 (out recorded 5-2), Pertrowski out 2-1 trying to score on passed ball.

 

NewCath 9th - GO6-3, Lexy Breen double off fence in left, PO3, Katie Kelly RBI to center, K.

 

International Tie-Breaker

Cooper 10th - Hume at 2nd, Suganuma with a missile back up the circle and into center (E8 allows Hume to score, Suganuma to 2nd, PB and then WP and Suganuma scores), PO2, Nicholas walks, Dummit single to left (on the single E7 allows Nicholas to score) BB, K, GO5-3.

 

NewCath 10th - Makenzie Jones at 2nd (PB moves up to 3rd), Olivia Gross walks, K, Kacy Zimmerman RBI GO6-3, Kennedy Bin RBI double off the fence in left, Meyers RBI single to center, PO3.

 

Cooper 11th - Dames at 2nd, Leah Moore infield single (Dames to 3rd), FO7 (no tag up on play), Suganuma hits one to Breen at short and she throws home. Dames slides about 5 feet before the plate and slides into Zimmerman who drops the ball, but picks it up and applies the tag. (Suganuma takes 2nd during the play). After a short umpires huddle it is determined that Zimmerman blocked the plate without the ball and the runner was declared safe. IMO, it was the right call. Allana Matteson walks and there loaded. With the infield in, Nicholas hits one to Bin at 1st and her throw home is in time, but Zimmerman's foot is not on the plate. Dummit RBI sac-fly (FO8), Petrowski walks, Kenner RBI walk, K.

First off, thanks to NewCath for including our seniors on senior night. This was a hug win for the Cooper program against an outstanding program like NC. There was some outstanding defense played by both teams. Was not sure at one point if this game was going to get finished as the rain was making it tuff for the pitchers and fielders. This is a great place to play and the field and press box is first class. Best of luck to NC the rest of the year and in the tournement.

"Watched" this one by proxy. Sounded like a good ole fashion hum dinger.

 

Wish it would rain some in NKY so the softball season wasn't so dry....
