Very interesting that this website, which I thoroughly enjoy, has so few threads about Jefferson County softball. This area includes probably 10 (if not more) of the top 20 teams in the entire state.

 

Why is this the case? Do coaches and parents in Jefferson County not care enough like those in Northern Kentucky?

Other than Marc Hardin's efforts, newspaper coverage is non-existent. Checkout the Cincinnati/Kentucky Enquirer and see how much coverage softball gets, hell you don't even get box scores.

I agree that the louisville/jefferson county has some of the true powers in the state but The Courier Journal is geared toward college and professional sports.

That being said,Western Ky is a hotbed for high school softball and the coverage regionally and locally is far and above greater than central and eastern ky.

Jim Pickens has year in and year out provided excellent coverage for the Owensboro Messenger Inquirer.During the season,especially during the Post-season their coverage is nothing less than great.

Also for the most part,it is the coaches responsibility to turn in scores and stats.For the fans a good coach takes the 5 minutes it takes to call it in.

Well that is disappointing as well Lawnboy, but at least on here, parents and coaches in Northern Kentucky appear to care. I expected better chatter and discussion from the local folks around Jefferson County because the season has been pretty amazing and unpredictable!

Most of the Louisville talk was on the Rivals board but that has completely dried up. Don't know if that's because all of those kids graduated and the parents moved on or what.

Would love to see more coverage in Louisville/Jefferson county area. Maybe more exposure to the NKY teams will bring more talk.

There is some great softball in the Louisville area. I would like to see the courier journal do more

I agree! With a my busy work schedule it's hard for me to catch a lot games but the one game I got to see was Male vs. Assumption. With other posts on this site I been following; there is a lot of talk about freshmen who aren't getting a lot of recognition that are well deserved. I couldn't help to notice that while Male is a young team, there were a couple of girls on Assumption's team who stood out. There was one who had to be the fastest player on the field and the other had so much power it's scary. In fact she hit a bomb to center well over 220 that got everyone's attention considering it was off one of the best pitchers in the state. Even though Assumption lost, I can only imagine what's in store for years to come with all that freshmen talent they have returning.

Assumption has 5 freshmen who are regularly starters. They are all very talented! The "fast" one is an outfielder for the HS team but plays a great Shortstop in travel ball and will be playing SS this Summer.

I wanted to stick around and catch all their names so I could give them so recognition.

Would you care to share, so I can do all I can to make another game before the district, region, and state is over. My schedule isn't looking good, but with names i can do my best to follow.

The one thing i enjoy the most about travel ball vs HS is the speed of the game and strategy. Having speed along with great hitters w/power makes a special recipe for success..
