March 24, 201610 yr This game was not as close as the score indicates. Cardinals scored 9 runs early and then let off the gas. Purdue was no-hit by McClure through 5 innings. In the 6th, they got a HBP, single, BB and a grand slam from 1 of their 2 competent sticks. Bullpen shut 'em down for the last 3 innings without much threat. The depth of the UofL pitching staff is pretty impressive. McClure would be a weekend starter on most Top 25 teams and they just roll out a ton of 6'5" arms from both sides when the starter is done. If they stay healthy, they will rake in Ws during midweek games where lesser programs are testing guys our OR letting "Johnny Whole-Staff" take a couple of innings each during those games. Cards outhit the Boilers 17-4. Fitch inserted at the DH spot because he is crushing the ball. Continued that trend yesterday. Smith is apparently the better defensive C, but the platoon is working well with each of them getting enough ABs to keep sharp. Solak continues to swing a hot stick and several others contributed as well. McKay played a few innings at 1B in a rare appearance. Looked rusty, including an E, on the few chances he had. UVa coming to JPat this weekend. #8 v. #9 and the reigning CWS champions in da house. 1800 tomorrow and 1300 SAT & SUN. Should be a great series. Maybe the Baseball Cards can get some revenge for the Basketball Cards who could do nothing against UVa this year! #L1C4 .
March 24, 201610 yr I didn't realize the four runs came on a Grand Slam. I stopped watching once the Cards went up 9-0. Game really wasn't close at all then.
