Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced DVR I can get?

 

I have TWC but don't have their dvr.

I don't think a 3rd party DVR will work with TWC other than a TiVo box, you'd have to get a multi stream cable card from TWC (I have one for a pc tv tune that no longer works - cost $2.50 per month). After buying the TiVo box, paying for lifetime service or monthly service from TiVo then the cable card, you would be better off with a TWC DVR. Is there a reason you don't want TWC DVR? The newest ones (Arris brand) aren't bad, the TWC tv app allows you to set recording from your smart phone/tablet even away from home, have improved and expanded on demand.

Other than cable is rather expensive I actually like TWC seems an improvement over Insight at least for me.

I wasn't really looking for dvr originally. Thought maybe it might be cheaper to go another route but sounds like it's probably not.

There are some DVR on the market but they are for use with an antenna for over the air broadcasts. However the FCC just ruled against the cable companies and will allow 3rd party DVR and require Cavle companies to allow customers to use them, but expect it to be battled back in forth with appeals for a year or so.

 

It stinks that with Windows 8 and beyond Microsft did away with Windows Media Center, I had at first a 2 tuner card back before HD that got all the channels that you could get on your tv at the time without a box, used to even get HBO and Showtime.

Then after the switch to HD and digital channels I got the 3 tuner box that used the cable card and I could record any channel I subscribed to including all premium movie channels etc and would record in HD on my Windows 7 desktop hard drive. There was no monthly charge and even the channel guide was free. Microsft elimating media Center is part of the reason I switched to Mac. (Not an easy use feature with Mac either)

Kodi media center will do what your talking about. I'm not as familiar with Plex, but I believe it can handle the PVR cards as well.
