One of my favorite authors ever. A professor of semiotics, he was fascinated by symbols and language and used both to tell amazing stories and weave amazing mysteries.

Foucault's Pendulum

The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana

 

Not to mention countless essays on subjects from religion to comic books.

 

It is a brilliance that will be sorely missed.
