Based on the district pairings that have been posted, it appears the 8 teams most likely to make it to the Seventh Region Tournament are:

25th district: Central and Manual

26th district: Male and St. X

27th district: Trinity and Waggener

28th district: Ballard and Eastern

Of those 8, I guess the team most vulnerable to a pre-regional upset would be Eastern, who plays KCD in the semi-finals of the 28th. And if Ballard has a cold shooting night, CAL may give them trouble.

But it should be some good competitive basketball regardless of who makes it. Should be fun. And I have no idea who might turn out to be the winner.

I've looked at KCD and CAL before and thought they could knock off someone in a district tournament. It's not happened. If it didn't happen when Eastern took a step back in recent years and KCD and CAL have had some solid teams, I worry it's just never going to happen for them.

They're very unfortunate in their alignment. Collegiate is in the same boat. I'd imagine that just for one year, a few schools in the Seventh would like to move around a bit.

I agree, although I think the KCD people would say this is their best team ever and their best chance of advancing to the Region in a long time.

But there is quite a differentiation between the small schools and the larger schools in the Seventh. CAL has closed that gap as it has gotten bigger, KCD has gotten better in recent years, and Collegiate has a new coach and new players it hopes will make a difference, but the line is still there. As a practical matter, it may never go away.
