Does every district do a blind draw?

 

No...I think another poster found there are only 5 districts left in the State that do a blind draw. The rest seed the district tournaments.

I don't see how sharing the gate (which they should) should impact if there is a draw or seeding.

I agree for the low seed teams a draw increases the chances to make the region, but IMO that truly weakens the regional tournament and is really unfair to the top seeds in the district if they draw one another. I have no problem if the top teams eliminate themselves in the Region, but why eliminate one in the first game of the district? You're basically giving a bye to one of the stronger teams which isn't fair to everyone else in the regional tournament.

 

It can be significant, in particular to a small school, to receive part of the Regional gate.

 

With some Districts having limited parity, generally much smaller schools with at least one perennial contender, it only increases a weaker program's ability to get to the Regional tournament.

 

The inverse of the fairness challenge is that with seeding, in some districts, you can almost guarantee that if you are one of the small schools you will be eliminated from the potential...for some this would be an annual occurance.

 

Is it somehow fair to the perennial weaker schools in the District to effectively always pass on an opportunity to get paid ?

No...Like I said...the gate should be shared, but the district should be seeded.

 

Giving a top team in what basically amounts to a bye in the the Regional Tournament isn't fair to the other teams in the tournament.
