Prestonsburg?

Featured Replies

Havent heard much for the usually strong P-burg faithful on here. Will they be back as a strong team this year or are they still a few years away from rebuilding? I have always liked following blackcat football but havent been hearing much lately.

I'll leave it to oneijoe to give the definitive preview, but I expect a more athletic team this year which will match up better with their competition. Middlesboro and Belfry are still the favorites for the region, with Sheldon Clark and Leslie Co. in the mix. I expect both P-burg and Brethitt to be more competitive.

who and how many did they lose to graduation?

I think it will be a sub-par year for Pburg standards. I mean, they will be decent, but with their loses to graduation, and they tend to get better as the season progresses, they may go 5-5 on the season....oneijoe, what's your take?

hmmm...

Right now, it's hard to say. I agree with JoeFan in that the Cats will be more athletic. I also agree with you in that the team will improve as the year progresses.

Hopefully, this will be a closer-knit team that learned the harsh lessons dealt last year. Among those:

1. Size and strength aren't 1/2 as important as speed and stamina. In other words, track work comes before weight work.

2. Getting "enough" playing time isn't a "right".

3. Pay attention to job #1 - keep the grades up.

4. Play the game for yourself and NOT for a parent or a coach.

5. Do YOUR job the best you can and help those younger/less experienced than you.

6. Don't take a coach's tirades personally... Understand, he wouldn't be that way if he didn't care.

Hey... while I'm thinking about it...

A big personal "thank you" goes to Scribe for compiling Prestonsburg's preview. Work has demanded so much of my time that I've not logged on BGP's as much as I'd liked over the past few months.

Right on the money as usual Joe. :thumb: I also appreciate all the previews. That took a lot of work. Thanks, Scribe!

I know some of the kids who will spend time in the backfield. Lincoln Slone is, I believe, a Sr. Also look for Seth Setser, Carmin Mains, Dalton Taylor and Alan Craynon to get some time there. Don't look for a Joe Blackburn or Matt Slone type work horse but all these kids look pretty quick and splitting the load should mean fresher legs in the 4th quarter.

Speed is important, but not as important as running hard and with a purpose.
