woodsrider Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Alcoa to close its aluminum smelter - Tri-State News, Weather & Sports Alcoa is closing their smelting opporation in Newburgh, In eliminating 600 jobs. I know a lot of people who work there and hate this for them. Alcoa is one of the higher paying jobs in this area.
Irish Cat Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 The article stated that the rolling mill and power plant will continue to operate. The article didn't state how many jobs those were. Curious if anybody knows how many total jobs are at Alcoa before the loss of these 600.
woodsrider Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 Not really sure. I want to say there was something 2000 total there at one time but I may be dreaming. I'm also wondering how many power plant jobs will actually stay. They may keep it open but way they will be producing the same amount.
