HoopDreamsCoachQ Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Team of the Week: Dunbar – Winners of 5 in a row to take the Championship of the Traditional Bank Classic at Lexington Catholic last week. Avenged an earlier loss to Trinity in the title game of the tournament. Player of the Week: Darius Williams, Dunbar – MVP of the Traditional Bank Classic. Season averages up to 17.4 PPG and 4.2 RPG. Team Rankings 1. Dunbar – Reclaim the top spot with the Traditional Bank win. Sit at 13-2 with home dates against Madison Central and LCA this week. 2. Henry Clay – Winners of 9 out of their last 10 and sitting at 13-2 on the season. Cupcake games against Sayre and Williamstown this week and a district showdown against our #3 team on Friday night. 3. Scott County – The Cardinals are 15-1 and haven’t lost in a calendar month. Went 4-0 at the King of the Smokies tournament. Host 8th region foe Oldham county before a date at Henry Clay on Friday. 4. Lafayette – These Generals were the runners up at the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic. They go across the city to Bryan Station and Tates Creek this week. 5. Lexington Christian – Split 4 games at the Lake Cumberland tournament. They still lack a marquee win on the season. District battles at Lex Cath and at Dunbar should tell us more about these young Eagles and provide them a chance to get a much needed district win. 6. Lexington Catholic – Winners of 3 out of 4 and placed 3rd in their Traditional Bank Classic. A head to head win over Bryan Station moves them up. They led Trinity in the 4th quarter before a poorly timed scoring drought. 7. Bryan Station – The Defenders went 3-2 at the Traditional Bank event but took an absolute mauling at the hands of Dunbar and dropped a game to Lex Cath as well. After watching both games in person, this team struggles to score. Against Dunbar, they couldn’t throw it in the ocean. 8. Madison Southern – 8-6 after the Christmas break, these Eagles have a balanced attack with 3 players averaging double figures and two others at 9.7 and 7.9 PPG. 9. Madison Central – Won 2 out of 3 at the Gateway Classic and blew a big lead against Mercer County in a game they should have won. They play at Dunbar, at Cordia and home to Woodford this week. 10. Woodford County – Winners of 4 in a row, the Yellow Jackets gave Coach Scott Hundley his 100th career win last week. They face off against both Madison county schools and Harrison County this week. 11. Franklin County – Had won 6 in a row before dropping their last 2. Freshman Diablo Stewart is averaging 14.6 PPG on a crisp 33.6% from the field. Demarcus Kennedy is averaging a double double after 13 games. 12. Model – Went 2-1 at the Red River Classic and are 6-6 heading into the New Year. Off until Friday when they play host to Berea. 13. Sayre – Much more competitive lately, they appear to be improving quickly and are playing a better schedule than the bottom feeders of the 11th. 14. Frankfort – Losers of 7 out of 9 since starting the year 3-0, this Panthers team appears to be on the verge of letting the year get away from them. 15. Tates Creek – The boys from the Creek have a bona fide winning streak after beating Estill County and Russell County at the Red River Classic. Their only game this week is a home contest against Lafayette. 16. Western Hills – Dropped 2 out of 3 at the Traditional Bank Classic and sit at 3-8 for the season. However, they are in a very winnable district and have a senior heavy roster. 17. Berea – Losers of 10 out of 12 since starting 2-0, if they can’t beat Burgin next week, they may not win again until they play Kentucky School for the Deaf for the second time this year.
Muwv Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I'll b very surprised if lex cath doesn't handle lca fairly easily. Huge difference in guard play. Catholic has played a murder's row and lca has beaten no one. But anything can happen.
