1.Perry County Central (10-3):

No surprise that the Commodores are still #1 in the 14th region this week. Perry Central played some tough competition over Christmas break going 2-2 in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic. The Commodores went 2-2 with wins over Danville 55-50, Caverna 70-61 and losses to Lawrence County (the same team that the Dores’ will meet next Wednesday (January 6th) in the WYMT. The Commodores also went toe-to-toe with tournament champion, Paul Dunbar but falling to the Bulldogs 53-43. This was Dunbar’s closest game in the entire tourney.

2.Cordia (6-6):

The Lions had a pretty good performance in the Traditional Bank Classic at Lexington Catholic, making it to the final four before being sent to the consolation bracket by Bryan Station 47-42. The Lions would defeat John Hardin before being bounced hard by Henry Clay.

Cordia will return home for a date with Madison Central on Friday, January 8th.

3.Letcher County Central (9-3):

The Cougars had their 8 game wins streak snapped, losing 75-65 to Mountain Mission School VA in the Coal Field Clash at the Prior Center VA. The Cougars would only win 1 game in the tournament, beating John Burton VA 65-50.

Letcher County Central heads to the WYMT Classic where they will open up with 13th region powerhouse, South Laurel.

4.Hazard (10-2):

After starting the season 3-2, the Bulldogs have turned on the throttle, winning 7 straight with wins including, Breathitt County (twice), Buckhorn and winning the Pikeville Invitational Tournament.

Hazard will host June Buchanan on January 9th.

5.Breathitt County (9-5):

The Bobcats put up some good quality wins over the break, defeating Lynn Camp (10-2), Harlan (9-6) and Betsy Layne (5-6). Breathitt County was Harlan Independent’s only loss in the Pine Mountain Classic at Pineville High School. Breathitt County would return home tonight, hosting Hazard in a game that would go from tip-to-buzzer, right down to the wire before Hazard would pull out a thrilling 63-60 win over the Bobcats.

The Bobcats will return to action Tuesday when they host Riverside Christian.

6.Knott County Central (7-5):

The Patriots have hit a rough spot here lately, losing 4 straight and only winning 1 of their last 5 games, things don’t get any easier as they head into a loaded WYMT Classic and open up with Clay County.

7.June Buchanan (9-3):

The Crusaders had a good showing in the Hoodies Classic in Charlotte North Carolina last week/over Christmas break. The Crusaders defeated top 5 ranked (NC) Butler NC 63-59 as they picked up 3 wins. For some reason they didn’t play in the championship game. Not sure if Coach Justice decided not to play the championship game or not.

JBS will host Jenkins on Tuesday.

8.Buckhorn (6-8):

A preseason potential region contender, is struggling this season, going 6-8 (3-2 region) with both of those losses coming to district foes, Hazard and Perry Central. Buckhorn had dropped 3 straight (all Traditional Bank Holiday Classic @ LexCath) and have only won 2 of their last 5 games.

Buckhorn will play Harlan County in the opening round of the WYMT Classic next week.

9. Leslie County (4-7):

The Eagles have lost 4 straight and have lost 7 of their last 10 games. The Eagles do own a big win over Knott Central who is 4x 14th Region Champ.

10.Wolfe County (8-5):

Streaks is Wolfe Count’s new name. They started the season on an 8 game win streak but have since lost 5 straight. Wolfe County will look to right the ship or “Wolves Den” Tuesday when they host Menifee County.
