2nd Regions Rankings after Week 2

Recommended Posts

With only two weeks of the season under our belt and not very many major region matchups thus far, there is still a lot of speculation within the rankings. With some interesting region matchups ahead in the next week, the picture will become much clearer. However, there are still a few shakeups from the preseason rankings based on a few surprises already.

1. Henderson County (1-1); Preseason Rank - #1

Only two games with no region matchups so far, but Henderson County will remain the favorite until someone proves otherwise. A huge win over Apollo and an out of state loss doesn't give much indication to whether or not they will remain unquestionably dominant in region play.

2. Madisonville-North Hopkins (3-0); Preseason Rank #2

The Lady Maroons have had a relatively easy schedule to this point and won't truly be tested until they travel across town to Hopkins County Central on Tuesday. Expect a win in that matchup but the score difference will tell us how good the Lady Maroons really are.

3. Hopkinsville (2-2); Preseason Rank #4

The Lady Tigers have dropped both out of region games but are 2-0 in the region with wins over Webster County and Fort Campbell. Even without Janiya Davis, who will likely miss the entire season (KHSAA ruled ineligible), this is still a very talented roster. Unfortunately, Hoptown's first major test within the region won't occur until they meet Madisonville-North Hopkins on January 5th.

4. Webster County (2-1); Preseason Rank #5

The Lady Trojans lost a game to Hopkinsville in which neither team could find a rhythm due to a lot of whistles but posted an impressive blowout over Hopkins County Central. This appears to be a young team that is a force to be reckoned with. They will only get better as the season progresses.

5. Lyon County (4-0); Preseason Rank #7

Undefeated with all four wins in the region, however none were over any of the upper tier teams. We will learn more about the Lady Lyons once they are truly tested, which unfortunately won't happen until mid-January due to a very weak schedule.

6. Hopkins County Central (1-3); Preseason Rank #3

Very inconsistent results so far for the Lady Storm. A big win over Christian County, an impressive performance against Marshall County, and a head-scratching beatdown from Webster County leaves a lot of questions about how good/bad this team is. They started off last season in a similar fashion, so time will tell the story.

7. Crittenden County (3-0); Preseason Rank #9

The Lady Rockets are 3-0 but all three wins have came against three of the bottom four teams in the region. Their next two games (Hopkinsville and Lyon County) will reveal the potential of this 5th district team.

8. Christian County (1-3); Preseason Rank #6

The Lady Colonels pulled out a close win against Caldwell County in game where they did not play very well, but they have dropped big losses to region foes Hopkins County Central and Madisonville-North Hopkins. This is still a young team that may emerge as a top 5 team by season's end.

9. Union County (1-2); Preseason Rank #8

All three games have been against out of state opponents, so there's not much to base judgement on for the Bravettes. Judging only by scores, it looks like they will once again look to disrupt their opponents with tough half-court defense.

10. University Heights (1-2); Preseason Rank #10

A big win over Fort Campbell and a tough loss to Lyon County keep this team right where we expected them to be - a team in rebuild mode after heavy hits from graduation and lost transfers.

11. Livingston Central (0-2); Preseason Rank #11

The Lady Cardinals have only had one region matchup, a 10-point loss to district rival Lyon County. Games against Trigg County and Crittenden County over the next two weeks will give us a better idea where the Lady Cardinals stand.

12. Caldwell County (0-3); Preseason Rank #13

The rebuild is in full motion in Princeton. The Lady Tigers have dropped all three region games so far - Christian County, Lyon County, and Crittenden County. The game against University Heights on December 18th will be an interesting matchup to provide some clarity to the bottom half of the region standings.

13. Dawson Springs (3-3); Preseason Rank #15

This is shaping up to be one of the best teams that Dawson Springs has put in uniform in several years. Confidence-building wins over Fort Campbell and Trigg County have lifted the Lady Panthers from the 2nd Region basement.

14. Fort Campbell (1-3); Preseason Rank #14

The Lady Falcons have lost all three region games so far, including a tough 1-point loss to Dawson Springs. New head coach Arnika Brown has her work cut out for her.

15. Trigg County (0-4); Preseason Rank #12

The Lady Cats have lost all four games by double digits, including region losses to Dawson Springs and Crittenden County. It could be a very long season.

Yes it happens a lot but I think what caused the ruling is that she went to Christian County as a freshman, UHA as a sophomore, and is now at Hoptown as a junior. Honestly, I hope they stand by the ruling so some of this stuff stops. If they are going to allow kids to jump from school to school without moving then there might as well be no transfer rules at all.
