3rd Region Rankings (Week1)

Featured Replies

With graduation and the mass exodus of top players from the 3rd in the offseason, early season rankings should be taken with a grain of salt. We now have one week of action under our belt. Here is how they stack up after 1 week of action...

1.Meade County(3-0, SAME) - The Waves have opened the season by proving they belong as preseason favorites to win the region. They collected big region wins over Ohio County & Owensboro Catholic, as well as an out of area win vs Marion County. Meade returned 4 of 5 starters from their region runner up team and have added key transfer James Baker to the mix. Adding his skill and athletisim to an already solid unit makes Meade a heavy favorite in this region. (THIS WEEK: v Providence, IN - @Cloverport)

2.Daviess County(2-0, UP 3) - DC got a big win on the road Friday, at Owensboro. The Panthers struggled throughout the game but found a way to steal the victory in the closing seconds. As long as the Panthers can keep Stewart Currie on the floor, they will have a chance. DC also got a huge game out of Jr. guard Tyler Boling. Coach Hayden will be looking for guys to step up and help Currie. Boling proved to be that guy vs Owensboro. DC also picked up a win on the road vs Madisonville. (THIS WEEK @Edmonson Co, @Apollo)

3.Breck Co(2-1, DOWN 1) - The Tigers opened the season by getting upset on the road to a scrappy Edmonson County team, but bounced back with nice wins over Butler County and Cloverport. Cody Mingus was big in the two wins for Breck. If these Tigers want to prove they belong at the top of the region, they will need to show some more consistency.(THIS WEEK: vHancock, @Muhlenberg)

4.Hancock Co(2-0, UP 6) - Outside of Meade County, Hancock may have had the most impressive week in the region. The Hornets held off Apollo at home, then went into Mclean County and knocked off the Cougars. Ty Ogle has been HUGE for this team, scoring 60 points in 2 games. This is a sneaky good team to keep your eye on going forward. (THIS WEEK:@Breck, vButler)

5.OHS(0-2, DOWN 2) - The defending state champs are off to a rough start by Red Devil standards. However, their loss on the road was without their leader, PG Jacoby Harris. They also let a home district game get away from them late, vs Daviess County. While they sport a new, young cast of players, these Devils are still dangerous. They are small, but quick as lightning. This is a team that will continue to get better and better as the season goes along.(THIS WEEK:@Warren Central, @Catholic)

6.Edmonson County(2-0, UP 6) - These Wildcats shocked Breckenridge County this past week and turned heads across the region in the process. They are a very scrappy team that will get after you. They return most of their scoring from a year ago, and in a region where there is very little talent gap from top to bottom, they fit right in. (THIS WEEK: vDaviess Co, @Greenwood)

7.Grayson County(2-0, UP 6) - Coach Carwile is picking up right where he left off last season. His Cougars improved greatly as the season wore on last year and they are off to a fast start in 2015. Grayson picked up an impressive win at Muhlenberg County. (THIS WEEK:@Central Hardin)

8.Whitesville Trinity(2-0, UP 1) - The Raiders are off to a hot start behind leaders Daniel Morris and Dakota Wathen. Both have led the hot shooting Raiders to big wins over Cloverport and Portland Christian. They have a huge week coming up vs Apollo and at Hopkinsville.

9.Mclean County(1-2, Down 5) - No team in the region had a more disappointing week than the Cougars from Mclean County. This team had high expectations and suffered a 40 point loss to a Madisonville team that lost to Daviess County earlier in the week. Mclean also dropped a home game to Hancock County. Sam Miller is off to a hot start, but the rest of the team has struggled some. Mclean has plenty of time to turn things around. (THIS WEEK: @Ohio County)

10.Muhlenberg County(1-1, DOWN 3) - The Mustangs are a hard team to get a pulse on. Coach Stovall is in his first year at the helm and he will have to find a way to replace the leadership of PG Hunter Noffisinger, who graduated last year. The Stangs dropped a home game to Grayson but bounced back over the weekend vs Logan County. (THIS WEEK: @Catholic, vBreck)
