North Laurel's softball coach, Jimmy Durham stepping down

Featured Replies

This time, a coach in Laurel County will be stepping down due to a promotion. Jimmy Durham is being named as the new principal at North Laurel High School and by county BOE policy, can no longer coach. Coach Durham is currently at #5 in all time wins in KHSAA history (323 career wins), has 1 state title, countless regional titles, saw several players sign to play college ball, coached Miss Softball Becky Abner, and helped make NL the winningest team in KHSAA history, etc. These will be big shoes to fill.

The name that keeps coming up is Scott Gaines, former baseball coach from South Laurel. I think this would be a good fit for the Jaguars and believe that they wouldn't miss a beat if Scott were to apply for and be selected as the new head coach.

Congrats to Coach Durham on his promotion and good luck in finding his replacement.

I wonder what the theme of this latest venture will be. He can't use "Magical Mystery Tour," as that was the theme for this past softball season. :D

Congratulations, Coach! :thumb:

Maybe the theme from The Jeffersons "Movin on Up!"

I am hearing a lot of different names being tossed around. All sound like great candidates to be the new head coach for the lady Jags. They will be taking over a program with a great tradition and should know that they have a TON of great talent coming up thru the ranks.

Do you hear Shane Weaver from Christian County. He has taking a teaching job at north middle. He will be a good fit at north that is his dream job from way. back.;)

That must be the big surprise I keep hearing about.

It is true as he is replacing a teacher who just decided to retire at NLMS. I saw his name recently on a new teachers list for NLMS. Can anyone confirm that he is in the running to be the new softball coach at NLHS?

He's definitely in the running — and likely the favorite. He probably wouldn't have come all this way back home if he wasn't.

I have heard nothing but good things about him. I know the teachers/administrators at NLMS all seemed thrilled to get him, especially considering that the teacher he is replacing was a very late decision on her retiring. Sounds like they have some very good candidates to take over one of the premier softball programs in the state. With the talent they have and that they will see over the next several years, they should stay that way.

The story has it that Shane Weaver has been hired as the new softball coach at North Laurel. He has called a player/parent meeting for Monday night.

Congrats to Coach Weaver. He is taking over an excellent program with a long history of winning and has talent coming up for several years to come!
