I would like to get some opinions from anyone that has sent their kids to the Dave Bezold NKU Boys Basketball camp. I sent my 11 yr old son last year, he is skilled for his age and plays AAU ball. He had a blast and I told him he could go again this year. The only issue I see with this camp is the fact that he told me they hardly do any drills/stations and most of the time is spent scrimmaging.

 

Don't get me wrong, playing any type of ball is good for the kids but when I attended camps in school you had several local or statewide high school coaches working with you in separate stations for ballhandling, rebounding, defensive drills, etc....... it seems like it is just a weekling babysitting camp where kids get to play scrimmage games. I think next year we are going to cross the river and try a couple other ones. Anyone feel the same way or can recommend a better camp where the skills are stressed.

Xavier University used to run a father/son camp, where the dads participated right along with their sons. I never did it but I thought it sounded like a nice camp. I seriously doubt I could run with the youngsters nowadays. My son and daughter both attended Kyle Macy's camp in Lex. and loved it. I,m not sure if he is still doing that though. I told my daughter ( she was 10) that if she got to shoot free throws with coach Macy watching to wipe her hands on her socks. She did it and he got a real big kick out of it.

I almost did the UK father / son camp...my buddy just did it last week...not much basketball just a lot of autographs/talking to players/coaches and being around the facilities. He said it was a great expererience and definitely worth it. I see where Kyle Macy is doing a camp up here at Town and Country this week.

 

I think I am going to send him to Stan Kimbrough's Skills camp...it looks like it is 4 hours a day and intense skill development. I want my boy to work on getting better at reverse dribbling, pushing the ball ahead of him , just better offensive moves. I think it will help. Kimbrough was an accomplished player at X and played in the NBA briefly. I think the NKU camp is a fun camp but more a place to take your kids so they can play games all week.
