2015 All State Team

Recommended Posts

I believe your numbers may be a little off. The last time I looked there may be 20% that are not members and that was a lot of the small schools but a few big school that surprised me. The list was on the website but I was unable to pull it up. I can tell you of the girls I listed above, I know the membership was paid except for maybe Henry Clay (I am not sure but they may have). The voting is not done by all the members. Each region has a representative that was chosen by the Kentucky High School Girls Soccer Coaches Association to represent that region.

I will say there is no perfect way and there will always be different views on who should make it and who shouldn't. If there wasn't different views there would never be any post on this forum. I wish all the girls good luck that made it and good luck to all the girls that didn't.

I just posted this in the volleyball thread, thought that it was relevant here too..

There are 260 volleyball schools (give or take those that didn't field a team this year)

there are 77 coaches listed in the KVCA 2015 directory

thats 29%

and that's assuming all of them voted, which probably didn't happen.

So I'm guessing 20-25% of all KY Volleyball coaches voted for the team.

I am not sure about volleyball and how they are set up. I was able to get information and as of 10/11/15 there were 47% of the schools with soccer teams paid their fee. There was only two team that was listed that I thought was top tier teams. I also know in girls’ soccer that all paid member coaches only get to vote on their all region teams. Then a representative (This representative is selected by the khsgsca officers or president, not really sure but it’s not by the region) from each region is allowed to vote on the all-state team. I know in a reply above that it was implied that they feel bad for player that don't get picked because of coaches that don't pay the money for them to have a chance but there are a lot of teams that pay and still have not had any players picked to the all-state teams. I know that our team has paid at least the last 3 years and not had anyone selected to the all-state teams. I would say that some coaches are tired of paying the $50 and watching the same team put 3 - 6 players on the team every year and watch other good players be left out. That sounds bad but I hear it all the time. All the players on the team probably deserve and should be there. The problem is with the entire system and there is not a perfect way. There is no way that any coach or coaches can see every team play and every player play. The coaches that are doing the voting have only seen a certain number of the teams play and that is usually only one game. They try to go on stats but as we all know they can be deceiving by the type of schedule that has been played. I hope all the coaches that is voting for the all-state teams have the best interest in all the players. If so then I applaud their efforts and their time spent doing this for the players. (Also all players I listed above, their teams paid this year)

I did the numbers and in 2013 (the last time I could find a published list) approx. 33% of the girls soccer programs in the state belonged to the KHSGSCA. There were 96 total all state slots. Twelve 1st team, 12 2nd team and 24 honorable mention X2 for east and west. Of that 96, 69 were members of the KHSGSCA and 27 were not. By my calculations, 33% of the schools accounted for 72% of the all-staters. Of the 27 all-staters who came from non-member schools there were 8 who played for region championship teams. That leaves 19 kids who made all state out of 96 who did not play for region winners or member schools. Haven't gone down to the district champ teams but you are getting close to single digits.

The math is pretty clear. The surest way to get picked-all state is for your program to win and be a member of the KHSGSCA.
