NKY Offensive Stats Leaders - Maher Weighted

PK....

Not sure there is anything to gain, nor is there a reason to credit goals to someone when it is actually an own goal.... JMO, sorry you are so bothered by this.

No need to apologize if that's how you feel, I'm not that bothered by it. I also agree that stats should be accurate, but to claim something is phishy is to imply that there is a motive behind the credited goals. Can' t help to think that if Wend wasn' t on this list that we would not be talking about Conner's goal count. For the record Wend was only credited with the questionable goal against Boone, none against CCH and I would argue the Boone goal was legit. I joined the forum because I enjoy most comments and game summaries and occasionally have a question or comment. I love that someone takes the time to breakdown the stats like this and posts to generate discussion. I don' t see the value in questioning the integrity of a program or the achievements of a young man who has had a wonderful season. I realize stats like these go a long way in discussing the OPOY and this is why I think some feel the need to discredit others. Is Wend the OPOY? Don' t know and don't care, but I'm glad he's a Cougar and I'd bet most teams would welcome him with open arms into their lineup. BTW, not my son, which I'm sure has crossed the minds of some readers.

PK....

This is not about discrediting someone or questioning their achievements, I did not say anything close to that. Wend has had a great season and this does not change it one bit, and you are correct, any team would be glad to have him.... I know we would.

From my perspective, this was about questioning the accuracy of the stats, and nothing more.

PK...agree with Yellow ...quality player, and this conversation isn't about the that quality or specifically him....

When someone mentions offensive achievements they usually start with mentioning xx goals and xx assists scored ....or that the player has been involved in xx% of the teams scoring.........those stats come from the website and conversations over the year have been around inconsistency from team to team on reporting. Some teams use players to keep them and some use parents/coaches.......some were giving two assists, etc...... so the conversation is more around consistency and not a player.

I'm pretty sure YC has drafted Wend in his fantasy league.

I've never given much weight or thought to these stats due to the inherent inaccuracy of them and the differing level of competition. The inaccuracy comes from who is reporting them, which varies by teams. A perfect example is the awarding of two goals in a PK shootout by Scott. If you are that out of the loop in how to record a PK shootout you have no business reporting stats. This probably happens on lots of teams. I do think the Maher weighted system helps to eliminate the disparity in competition although I'm not a big fan of the Maher system itself.

^ Dunbar and Henry Clay (among a few others) don't even report stats. I think that's just about as annoying.

Didn't KHSAA put some rule in place so they have to?

Questioning the stats of a team on a thread that uses these stats to rank players, is in fact questioning the legitimacy of a players achievements, deliberate or not. Even Sir, on post #11 of this thread, responding to YC, understood this was about Wend. If the comments are merely a call out that all stat reporting is not created equal, why call out a specific team, or for that matter bring up a game that happened a month ago? Post # 9. Perhaps using the word "Phishy" is what did it for me. To me this implies intent on someone to decieve. I'm not sure who Conner uses to record stats, but I am confident there is no intent behind crediting goals or assists incorrectly. I appreciate the responses and the clarification of your comments, but if I say the explanations seem "phishy" to me, please don't take offense.

PK...

There have been other schools, and players, mentioned... this is not an attack towards anyone, just questioning the validity of the stats for the entire season. These comments also apply to more than just one player, there have been multiple goals/assists credited, or not credited, that seem to be in error.

You have every right to think what you want about the multiple explanations you have been given, if you think they are questionable... so be it... I cannot force you to take people at their word.

Scott was called out for the mistake of having 2 goals that were awarded to players for PK's thinking they were supposed to be entered. So I did research and saw that Connor must have also made a mistake. My point in even making the post was not to call out anyone one program or player, but anytime Scott does something wrong I know a certain someone wants to jump all over it, leaving other schools that have made the same mistakes out.

Sorry.......was thinking of my response to someone on another thread.......

For some reason, KHSAA reported the score for the Dixie game as 6-0 but didn't report the individuals.....

Sir....PLEASE accept my apology and THANK YOU for your time

^ I'll try to run a final tally after Saturdays games and make a final update when the updated Maher numbers are out.
