September 6, 201511 yr Former USF defensive lineman Elkino Watson has died following an early-morning stabbing incident outside an Ybor City nightclub. Police confirmed the identity of Watson, whose USF career ended in 2014, late Sunday morning. Another victim, Desmond Horne, suffered what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Horne competed for a Bulls roster spot this past spring. “We are deeply saddened and stunned by the tragic loss of Elkino Watson and the injuries suffered by Desmond Horne,” USF coach Willie Taggart said in a news release issued by the school. “We are deeply saddened and stunned by the tragic loss of Elkino Watson and the injuries suffered by Desmond Horne,” USF coach Willie Taggart said in a news release issued by the school. “Kino was a tremendous young man with a great smile and a big heart who was very much loved by our USF football family and will be sorely missed. Our hearts hurt for his daughter and his family. The thoughts and prayers of our team and our university are with the Watson family as they deal with this terrible loss and with Desmond Horne to make a full recovery.” The Orpheum in Ybor City hosted what it billed an "official" USF-Florida A&M after party following the Bulls' season-opening 51-3 rout of FAMU Saturday at Raymond James Stadium. In the news release, the school reiterated the party was not an official university function. I met met and talked to Kino on several occasions during his time with USF. Nice kid. This makes no sense.
September 9, 201511 yr Author In the weekly American conference interview after Elkino Watson's death, Willie Taggart banned all players from Ybor City. Several hours later, AD Mark Harlan issued a press release effectively reversing the ban. This blew up in the local press resulting in the following joint press conference with Harlan and Taggart, instead of CWT's normal Tuesday PC. https://www.periscope.tv/w/aL9BATEwNjgwNjgxfDF5cEtkUndvcWtnSleAWMoF6eU7KCpdyT pCUZaFrenLIfay8UJ_e_htnqHxFw==
