10. Pikeville (1A, 1-0)- Panthers had questions entering their opener with 2A Prestonsburg but quickly answered all of them. Pikeville gets another quality game against 5A Letcher Central in the Pike County Bowl.

9. Raceland (1A, 1-0)- Rams were not in the form expected of them against a 3A West Carter team that has tempered expectations around them.Rams can quickly make a statement this week with rival Ashland.

8. Russell (3A, 0-0)- Devils were idle but hopes are extremely high after a very impressive scrimmage slate. County rival 4A Greenup County should be a favorable draw.

7. Bell County (3A, 1-0)- Bell took out two years of frustration on their rivals and swatted the Jackets in impressive fashion. Now they must take a substantial step up in competition to challenge Boyle County.

6. Corbin (3A, 1-0)- The Redhounds scrapped the Air Raid in favor of Ground and Pound and beat 5A Whitley County into submission. The Hounds get a nice taste of speed this week vs. Waggener.

5. Ashland (4A, 0-0)- The Tomcats make their debut against 1A Raceland. The Tomcats have plenty of reasons for optimism from all Pre-Season reports, but they will have to make those expectations reality against a very good group of Rams.

4. Belfry (3A, 0-0)- Pirates have been a bit fumble prone in their scrimmage slate, but have also shown signs of dominance. They open with 6A Tates Creek.

3. Johnson Central (4A, 0-0)- The Pre-Season slate for the Eagles has been impressive, expect them to crush Fairland, OH.

2. Southwestern (5A, 1-0)- As we have eluded these rankings are fluid and Southwestern made a statement in Week 0 by making the Black Bears into a rug while Belfry and Johnson Central were idle. A ranked 4A team awaits in Bourbon County.

1. Pulaski County (5A, 1-0)- The Maroons offense was on point in their debut against an overmatched foe. Things get serious in a hurry this week against 6A Scott County.

TRENDING UP

- Leslie County (2A, 1-0) Though Magoffin County will not make anyone's short list of 3A's top teams, Leslie dominated the Hornets who are fresh off a record setting season. The Eagles have a nice mix of experience and firepower.

- Somerset (2A, 1-0) The Briar Jumpers already have more wins than all of the 2014 Season after crushing 4A Mason County. Jordan Doan will be a force throughout the season.

- West Carter (3A, 0-1) The Comets took an "L" to Raceland, but they surpassed many expectations with the fight they brought. West Carter has some offensive firepower and a strong QB. Powell County should get them in the Win Column.

- McCreary Central (3A, 1-0) Credit is due to Justin Bozeman's Raider squad who ended their losing streak by dismantling Jenkins 46-6. All indications are that this win will not be an isolated incident as well and that McCreary will be a much improved team.

TRENDING DOWN

- Shelby Valley (2A, 0-1) The Wildcats had everything going for them before they took the field against 4A Franklin County. The inability to contain speed which cost them a blowout loss in the Semi-Finals reared it's head and the Wildcats took a crippling 60-6 defeat.

- Williamsburg (1A, 0-1) The Yellowjackets were brought back to how the other half lives in the season debut as 2A LCA punished them 51-0.

- Wayne County (4A, 0-1) The Cardinals had some raised expectations with a solid core returning and a new alignment but could not contain 6A Madison Central.

- Clay County (4A, 0-1) The Tiger faithful expected Clay to compete but instead they gave up 55 points to a Rowan County team most expect to be a non-factor in the same classification

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

RB Jaylyn Williams, Letcher County Central

Williams is one of the best kept secrets in the State of Kentucky and had his coming out party Friday as the Cougars defeated Pike Central 49-34. Williams rushed for a school record 463 yards and also broke the LCC record with 6 rushing TD's.

EASTERN KENTUCKY GAME OF THE WEEK

#9 Raceland @ #5 Ashland

Two teams with big hopes and big potential in a rivalry that has produced some Instant Classic games over the past 6 or 7 years. Last season Ashland survived 41-35 in one of the most exciting early season games in the State. Can the Rams handle the explosiveness of Quinton Baker and the Tomcat offense?

Pulaski and Southwestern were dominate against teams they should have dominated...Pulaski played a team with some athletes but when they put the hammer down it was over. Pulaski Offense looked in mid season form. Next weeks game against Scott Co. could show us a lot about just how good this team might be.

Southwestern dominated Harlan Co unlike maybe anytime in the programs short history. SW will not be tested again until the last two weeks of the season against Pulaski and Lexington Catholic. DO NOT SLEEP on this team, they are legit and barring injury bug again have a REAL chance of making it to Bowling Green also.

PS...for all of those pushing Tom Larkey out the door...ya happy now?

Tom was a huge loss for Rock and will be a huge loss for Harlan County. Did he fully retire or does he have a new coaching job?
