What does Spencer County need to do to improve in 2015? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Spencer County has been competitive for the past couple of years and is definitely heading the right direction, but their district just got a whole lot tougher.

 

Logan Holbrook is back for his senior year after rushing for over 1400 yards last year but quarterback play has been poor.

 

Spencer County *should* beat Shelby County and make the playoffs, but they should've beaten them the past two times they played. They have a chance to make things really interesting in what should be a very competitive district.

You are absolutely correct on two fronts. Spencer should have beaten Shelby last year but when you give up 29 points on special teams you will lose. Secondly they have to get better QB play their QB played well in their win over North Oldham, but played poorly in their loss to Collins and their loss to Henry to close the season out.

 

Spencer has a ton of returning players, Holbrook returns for his senior season after running for 1400 yards and 21 TD's, Sophomore Kadin Smith returns after closing out his freshman season with an 84 yard rushing effort against Doss. Spencer must replace 2 offensive lineman and probably the biggest loss #17 Kynan Smith at WR. Although they don't throw it a lot he had 30 receptions last season.

 

Defensively they have 7 starters returning but without a doubt getting Junior #22 Hunter Brown back will be huge. They lost him to a knee injury in the North Oldham game and he was out for the year. He is their best defender and extremely disruptive and makes plays all over the field.

 

They also have Junior Running Back/DB # 23 Branden Leff returning, he was averaging over 10 yards per carry when he went down with a broken ankle and missed the second half of the year. Branden in one of the better CB's in the area.

 

Spencer County has upgraded their schedule and has a lot of pieces returning. Their backfield is extremely talented with 3 outstanding running backs that can do damage. They always play solid defense and if the QB play improves marginally and those backs stay healthy Spencer County will have a say in the district race.

 

Both Collins and Franklin visit Spencer and that is no easy place to play. The district race should be interesting there will be a very good team left out of the playoffs. Should be an exciting year for all the teams.
