Game One: Newport vs Villa

All in all it was a very very good game. Villa was down 8-3 going into the 5th inning was Senior Ben Lonneman launched a home run over the left field fence to jump start the bats into the blue lightening. They got 5 runs in the inning and the game remained tied until the 8th inning. Two lead off walks, a ground ball to move the runners over and a sacrifice fly to deep center scored the go ahead run for Newport in the top of the 8th. It proved to be enough to beat Villa. Villa had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh when Senior Kyle Herbstreit missed a lead off, walk off home run by about 2 feet. The ball hit the top of the fence in left field and Herbstreit advanced to second with the stand up double. Sophomore Brian Hamilton followed Herbstreit and hit a frozen rope that Newports second basemen made a great leaping play on. They threw to second base to record the double play. All in all it was a well played game that saw some great offense and some great defensive plays from both teams.

Game Two: Villa vs Bellevue

Senior Kyle Herbstreit threw all 5 innings and struck out 9 to improve to 303 on the season. He allowed one hit and one walk. He gave up 0 earned runs. Villa Madonna was in control of this one from the very start and cruised to a victory.

There was another game played in the torunament and I think it was Newport vs Bellevue, anyone that knows the info about that one feel free to post it.

 

The final set of games are played next Saturday beginning at noon at Newport.

Tigers upset the Wildcats the score was pretty bad around 11-1

Wow... who threw for bellevue?

WP was Thomas Richter. Actual final was Bellevue 12 Newport 1.

That comes as quite a surprise from us at Villa. Newport played us really tough and we all figured it would be pretty much a blow out for Newport. Did Newport just not play well or was Bellevue really on top of their game?

Bellevue played unbelievably good... they beat Newport fundamentaly and in hitting..... Richter threw good for the tigers.... they hustle every bat and play defense with alot of intensity without making any mental mistakes.... they have quality coaching as well... overall Bellevue played great

Well in that case, congrats to Bellevue on a very good win! Thats one way to bounce back from a loss! Great Job Tigers. Its Appears the final day of the Bertsch will decide it all...

 

Correct me if Im wrong but Villa is 1-1, Bellevue is 1-1 and Newport is 1-1.... Which leads me to believe that the tournament champ will be decided by who comes to play the hardest next Saturday.
