Raceland 4 Chesapeake, OH 3

Featured Replies

Raceland improves to 15-7 and gets their 10th straight win. Aaron Morgan pitched 5 scoreless innings for Raceland to get the win. Freshman Shawn Reynolds pitched the last 2 innings, giving up 3 runs (2 unearned). The Rams pulled a triple play in the 4th inning when Chesapeakes Baise bunted a ball in the air to the pitcher. Chesapeake had runners moving. Morgan throws to 1st and then Martin throws to 2nd for the triple play. Raceland got 3 hits from Tolliver and 2 from Deskins. Keep it up Rams. :ylsuper:

:thumb: :thumb: way to go Rams, sounds like yet another good pitching performance. Pitching and defense wins :ylsuper: :ylsuper:

Rams are rolling. However, seems like every game they give up unearned runs. That will come back to haunt them if they are not careful.

:thumb: That is a downfall of a lot of h.s. teams that I hve seen through the years.

That is very true. I know two years ago, Russell gave up over 100 unarned runs over the season. Hard to win many games, when you are spotting teams 3 or 4 runs a game.

How many unearned runs has Raceland given up this year?

I have no idea how many this year, I just know that I have seen a lot of Raceland teams (and others) through the years flat out give ball games away with poor defense.

Give me a pitcher that throws strikes and before you know it your defense improves. Walks always seem to score and most hs teams dont's send enough hitters to the plate to beat someone with the sticks.

Throw strikes + Don't strikeout + Make the routine plays = a bunch of wins!

Raceland has given up 37 unearned runs in 22 games.

What % of walks have scored? There is a lot of subjectivity among official score keepers as to what is an error and what is a hit. Some players get the benifit of the doubt more often than others. The official book is kept in the dugout for a lot of teams so the home earned runs go up and the visitors unearned runs go up. Most stats can be manipulated intentially or unintentially to prove a point. How many walks score?

Raceland has issued 54 walks. It would take a while to look up how many scored but I'll look.

If you have someone that is a baseball person keeping the book, I think you'd find that most scorekeepers are somewhat ligit. An error is an error. I know I have had other parents get upset with me because I didn't give a player "the benefit of a doubt"

Bottom line, would the player have been out if not for the bobble or did the baserunner advance because of the miscue. The other thing is there are so many mental errors that don't count as a physical error but make a difference.

:thumb: I was including mental error's in my mention of poor defense, error's. Things like not hitting a cut off man, throwing behind a runner, etc.

2.5 walks/game, I would think that is a pretty impressive number. At least on the low side of average. I think Coach Vanderhoof may need to share a little of the spotlight. Ramsey-mechanics (X's & O's), Hall-feel (rhythm & confidence), Vanderhoof-Hall of Fame!:D
