Bishop Brossart 3 Campbell County 1

Featured Replies

Final from Alexandria

Great game by both teams!!

It was a night of missed opportunities for the Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs leaving six runners in scoring position with less than two outs, however a solid defense and good pitching enabled Brossart to hold on for a 3-1 win over Campbell Co. in the all important 37th District seed game. The win gives Brossart a 3-0 District record with just a remaining game with Scott. Bishop Brossart now has a 12-5 record while Campbell Co. falls to 6-6.

In the first inning Ashley Childress drilled a game opening single to left and advanced to second on a bunt by Amanda Graus. Seconds later Amanda Lloyd drilled a shot to right to plate Graus and it was 1-0 Lady 'Stangs.

Brossart had scoring opportunities in every inning but didnt crack the scoring column again til the 5th. In that inning. Childress walked and Graus reached on a fielders choice to set the table for Amanda Lloyd who this time slammed a long triple to deep left to knock home two (her 35th and 36th rbis of the year).

The 3-0 lead held until a mini rally by Campbell produced a run to make it 3-1 but Brossart worked out of the jam.

Brossart is off Thursday before traveling to the National Guard Classic in Richmond this weekend to play Madison Southern and Jenkins. They have a full schedule next week including a trip to Owensboro, Ky for the Touchstone Energy All “A” State Tournament.

The junior varsity beat Campbell Co. 5-3 with Elizabeth Martin breaking a 3-3 tie in the fourth with a home run.

Correction: Elizabeth Martin had a triple in the JV game. Anyways, the Camels have some really nice talent coming up in the next couple of years. Very impressed with their young players on both the JV and Varsity. Time will only tell if the pitching advances or continues to improve but they will have some nice players and hitters to give some teams fits.

Brossart is young also with just two seniors

Campbell County is in the same vote. Their relying heavily on the 8th graders, that are spread across from freshman up to varsity. If any of the 8th graders don't show up next year to tryout as freshman, we could be hurting for players. Almost half of the girls that tried out this year were 8th graders. Some of the high schoolers that played last year didn't come out this year, and some of 7th graders this year didn't come out that tried out the previous year(and my understanding is that some of them may or may not try out as 8th graders next year.)

Why the declining numbers??

I'm sure there's a number of factors, and some you can find from others that posted last year and that'll give a little insight. Also, I'm sure some might go with Bishop Brossart for the Christian education(which I think is a plus). Maybe, it's soccer, who knows, but from my experience I'm glad we got the freshman coach we have.
