April 9, 201511 yr In honor of the day and what happened 150 years ago about 2 hours from where I am:
April 9, 201511 yr Ulysses S. Grant wasn't good at one single thing in his entire life... apart from being a soldier... and at that, there have been few better. He was famously magnanimous in victory, something General Lee never forgot. Grant ordered that none of Lee's men would be prosecuted for treason; all the officers were permitted to keep their sidearms; defeated men kept their mules and horses and Grant even provided the defeated Confederates with rations for the journeys home. As Lee finally rode away, the Union soldiers began to cheer and Grant ordered their immediate silence. ""The Confederates were now our countrymen, and we did not want to exult over their downfall."
