Boeing Patents "Force Field"

Featured Replies

Boeing has patented a Star Wars-style force field

Boeing has won a patent for a protective force field that could stop vehicles from being harmed by explosions, Popular Science reports.

It might sound futuristic — and it is. The patent isn't about stopping bullets or lasers or anything like that, though. Instead, it detects explosions near a vehicle, and then quickly heats up the air or water that's in between the vehicle and the blast. The heat creates a plasma shield that's more dense than normal air, adding to the vehicle's protection.

OK it's not the shields on the Enterprise or the Force Field around the Death Star...but it does seem to be a good first step.

Man I'd love to work at DARPA or Oak Ridge National Lab and know about all of the tech they have now that the rest of us will know about in 20-30 years

This is going to sound odd, but I thought an Israeli company did something like this back in 2007.

They have a system that shoots down incoming mortars, artillery or RPGs. This is a completely different set up.

I seem to recall something different than Iron Dome, which I think is what you are talking about.

Something magnetic to detonate incoming antitank missiles or something.

I probably ought to google it. Just being lazy at the moment.
