The Breds travel to Walton and hold on for the 6-5 victory.

 

Both teams enter the 3rd inning scoreless, but both plate two each in the frame. In the NewCath half, a one out Michaela Ware "laser beam" single of the SS's glove gets things started. She steals 2nd, and scores one out later on Kristen Schreiber's triple to the fence in right....she would score a few pitches later on a passed ball. The Bearcats tie things up in their half Alyson Poore leads off with a single and Aubri Anderson gets on by catchers interference. Then Abby Wassem hits a one hopper to Casey Kohls at 2nd who tags Anderson coming from 1st, but her throw to complete the double play gets by Kennedy Bin at 1st allowing Poore to score. Wassem would come around to tie it up on Lexie Rouse's double to the leftfield fence.

 

NewCath adds two more in the 4th Morgan Martini leads off with a "frozen rope" to center, moves to 2nd on a passed ball and advances to 3rd on Haley Meyers sharp single to right. Fr. Jaden Watts, running for Meyers, steals 2nd and the Breds have them at 2nd & 3rd with one out. Kennedy Bin then tags one, but it is right to the leftfielder, but Martini tags up and Watts moves to third when the ball evades the catcher. Watts comes in on Lexi Breen's perfectly laid bunt.

 

The Bearcats get one back in their half on Emily Quatkemeyer's homerun to right, as NewCath rightfielder Katherine Schreiber almost comes up with the diving catch (really awesome effort).

 

In the Breds 5th Casey Kohls gets a one out double that hugs the leftfield line and comes in to score on Kristen Schreiber's "nubber" in front of the plate.

 

WV gets one back in the 6th with two outs 2 walks, a hit batter, and wild pitch.

 

The Breds regain the 2 run advantage in the 7th on a Haley Meyers single to center. In the Bearcat 7th following a one out walk, Emily Quatkemeyer sends a one hopper to the rightcenter fence, she moves up to 3rd on a wild pitch, but Haley Meyers gets a K and grounder to 2nd to end the game.

Bearcats go to a 5 girl infield and get 1 out and then stay in it and get burned with the next batter!

Christine Valvano gets the start for the Bearcats. I am pretty sure that it was her first varsity start ever and the normal Bearcat starter Rouse starts at second. Christine did a pretty good job. Bearcats will have some early pains but will no doubt get things rolling in the right direction. Nice game by NCC. Congrats on the win.

Bearcats go on the road to Ballard Invitational and start things off with Collins (8:30 Fright night) and then CAL (9:00 Saturday morning).
