Shane Sams Named Head Football Coach at Muhlenberg North

Shane Sams is the new head football coach at Muhlenberg North High School. Sams is originally from Corbin, KY and is a graduate of Corbin High School. He is also a 2001 graduate of the University of Kentucky and will receive his Masters Degree from Eastern Kentucky University.

 

Sams has coached football at the highest level of the sport, both in high school and at the college level. Sams began his coaching career in 2003 as an assistant coach at nationally ranked football powerhouse Daphne High School in Daphne, AL. During the 2003 season, Daphne won 14 straight games on their march to the Alabama 6A State Championship Game. After the 2003 season, Sams joined the football staff at West Virginia University. While there, Sams and the Mountaineers won the 2004 Big East Championship and participated in the 2005 Toyota Gator Bowl versus Bobby Bowden and his Florida State Seminoles. In 2005, Sams was hired by Eastern Kentucky University as a defensive assistant coach and director of football operations.

 

Coach Sams will also be teaching Social Studies at Muhlenberg North High School. Sams is married to the former Jocelyn Hyravy. Jocelyn is originally from Muhlenberg County and is a 2001 graduate of the University of Kentucky.

Shane Sams is a good person and good coach. He will do a good job at Muhlenburg North.

He seems extremely overqualified for the MNHS job. I just hope he can get the kids out and somehow get past the one sport mandates the school and community have had in the past.

After seeing what the guy brings to the table, you almost have to wonder if he really knows what he's getting into...North has kids, and they enjoy sports there, just not football. Coach Sparks probably has more to do with this guy's possibility of winning than anything.

I went to school, and played with Shane in High School and Middle School. He is a very good person, and is a good hire Muhlenerg North. Hopefully he can get thier program turned around. Best of luck Shane.
