I agree with Jay Bilas in regard to others in this area being deserving of mention. I would add Okora and/or Fortman of Russell. There were other deserving girls in this region but you can't name everyone. I believe the top six players in the 16th Region were Faulkner, Terry, Queen, Okora, Fortman, and Rayburn. Of course, it wouldn't be reasonable to expect all six to make the all state list. Actually, four is a pretty good representation. I would put either Okora or Fortman ahead of Rayburn but that is personal opinion. Also, we should remember that the "Winchester Wall" exists for recognition beyond governmental matters. The team is top heavy with selections west of Winchester, so to speak, but that is always the case.

 

As a Rose Hill partisan, I am pleased that three of our girls were included. All deserved it but, when the team comes from the Lexington Herald-Leader, you can't always count on the recognition. I did notice that all five of LexCath's starters were either first team, second team, or honorable mention. I certainly agree with these choices. In all honesty, there were two separate state competitions. First was for the overall state championship and that was for the winner of the 11th Region (LexCath or Scott County). All the others, including Rose Hill, played for runner-up. We all knew this, or should have known it, before the season even started. I think that most at Rose Hill realize this and, for that and many other reasons, there is certainly no disappointment whatsoever. Lexington Catholic was a special team- most likely the best to ever play in the Commonwealth. It was a pleasure to watch them play and, from all indications, they should repeat next year since three of those fine starters and an ample bench return.

This may be old news, but a poster is reporting on the Kentucky women's message board that Arnika did not qualify and is therefore enrolling in junior college. It seems credible based on some of the responses s/he has received.

 

If this is a fact it would be a shame however; a lesson to standout athletes to buckle down on AND off the court.

If this is the Brooke Faulkner I am thinking about from Harrison County I'd have to say that she is way better than Lantry at all aspects of the game. She has one of the purest jumpshots I've seen in years. I've watched her play several times this year and seen her score 38 points at a Christmas tourney in Louisville. Faulkner is in a whole other league than Lantry.

I actually did see her play Notre Dame in that Northern Exposure Tournament it wasn't exactly her best game but I did see her play again at the Kentucky Preps Plus tournament at Louisvile Trinity against Male. She had around 40 points and played an amazing game.

I've seen her play since middle school. Northern Exposure probably worst I ever saw her play. Male was right at the top. Classic record for points and steals.

I really think it cost her some votes for post season honors, as did the Butler game in Louisville.
