She had a big night. I think she scored 7 of GRC's first 10 points and just built it up from there. I think it was a very good performance by the Lady Cards.

George Rogers Clark senior Sandra Skinner, right, goes up for a shot as Montgomery County senior Hannah Spence defends during the first half of Friday's game at the Montgomery Country High School gym. Skinner finished with a game-high 26 points as the Cardinals defeated the Indians, 67-39.

MOUNT STERLING — The top seeds for the 40th District Tournament are set.

The George Rogers Clark girls basketball team cruised past Montgomery County 67-39 Friday night at the MCHS Arena to solidify the top seed in the 40th District with the regular-season sweep of the Lady Indians. Clark defeated Montgomery County 65-46 on Jan. 16 at Norton Gymnasium.

In the opener, Skinner scored seven of Clark's first 12 points and Paige Taylor tallied seven of the Lady Cards' last nine points of the first quarter as Clark raced out to a 21-6 lead at the end of the first frame.

Skinner led all scorers with 26 points, followed by Taylor with 10. Kaitlyn Williams just missed double digits with nine points. Skinner, who made 10 of 15 shots from the field, completed a double-double with 15 rebounds.

Taylor did all of her scoring of the quarter in consecutive fashion, connecting on back-to-back 3-pointers to help put the Lady Cards in command early.

Montgomery County opened the second quarter with a 5-2 run to narrow a 21-6 deficit to 23-11 but couldn't get any closer the remainder of the quarter. Clark outscored the hosts 13-2 in the final four minutes of the quarter to build a 36-13 lead at the break.

Skinner led the Lady Cards with 14 points in the opening half.

The Lady Indians were limited to single digits and just five field goals in the first two quarters and trailed by 30 points twice in the second half.
