Inside the 12th Region 1/27/15

 

This is rivalry week once again in the 12th Region. Two of the biggest games of the season take place this Friday night in the towns of Danville and Monticello. The rematch between Lincoln County at Boyle County and Southwestern at Wayne County should be two of the most intense, exciting game thus far this season and should have a playoff atmosphere as district seeding will be on the line.

On Friday night you can also find East Jessamine going to Mercer County for a 46th district match-up and Pulaski County traveling to Rockcastle County in the 47th District. There are many other good games to see this week, but Friday night looks to be one of the best nights of the year in 12th Region basketball.

 

 

12th Region Rankings:

 

 

1) Lincoln County (17-2) -Beat Garrard County 78-45 and beat Madison Central 81-78. Play McCreary Central 1/27 and Boyle County 1/30.

 

2) Boyle County (15-5) –Lost at Paul Laurence Dunbar 69-77 and beat Garrard County 70-43. Plays Mercer County 1/27 and Lincoln County 1/30.

 

3) Wayne County (14-5) –Beat Rockcastle County 94-59, Elizabethtown 69-49, Casey County 75-56, and lost at Scott County 69-71. Plays Knox Central 1/27 and Southwestern 1/30.

Notes from the past week:

 

 

-Congratulations to Danville for winning the 12th Region All A tournament. They will face Williamsburg in the first round of the Touchstone Energy All A State Tournament in Frankfort this Thursday.

 

-Wayne County and Casey County played in the Toyota Classic in Scott County. Wayne went 3-1 only losing to the host Scott County while Casey went 2-2.

 

-Trey Blevins had 32 points in the loss to Scott County. Cory Stearns had 26 points and 8 rebounds.

 

-Ely Brooks had a big game in West Jessamine’s win over Madison Central. He had a game high 30 points while shooting 70.6% from the field and 50% from 3 point range.

 

-David McCorvey had a game high 24 points for West Jessamine in their win over rival Mercer County. He shot 70% from the field while making 10 of 12 free throws and led the Colts in rebounding with 8 boards. Siah Holifield added 18 points in the game for West.

 

-Will Hager had 14 points and 8 assists in Mercer County’s loss to West Jessamine. Trevon Faulkner led the way for the Titans with 17 points.

 

-Jacob Conway continues to make his case for player of the year in the 12th Region. He is averaging 21.2 points per game and bringing down an average of 9.1 rebounds per game. He is averaging 50% from the field and 80.2% for the free throw line.

 

-Payotn Woods leads the 12th Region in scoring averaging 24.3 points per game. He also averages 4.2 made 3 pointers per game which not only leads the region, but is 2nd in the state. Teammate Trey Blevins is not far behind averaging 3.1 made 3 pointers per game.

 

-Rashawn Jackson has only missed 7 free throws all year long and leads the 12th Region in free throw percentage shooting 88.7% from the line.

 

-Rockastle County as a team is leading the 12th Region in free throw percentage shooting 74.3% from the line. Lincoln County is not far behind shooting 72.9% from the charity stripe.

Lincoln County's game tonight against McCreary has been cancelled. It'll be a long week of preparation for the big game friday night at Boyle.

Yes, I missed Will Hagar's 41. That is an impressive nights work.

This is the first time I have gotten Brooks Ely wrong. It has usually been Hagen Tyler's name I get backwards lol.

The top four are in a league of their own, then it's the next two, then it's everyone else.

 

The 12th has some high-quality depth this year, that's for sure. Think, if East Jess kept Ronnie Carson, TJ Downey (who is killing it at Lafayette right now) and Cam Jones, they'd be right up there as well.
