MountainThunder Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 After a bus breakdown and no sleep for 36 hours, the Jags arrived in Coco Beach at 6pm on Sunday evening. Played at 7pm on Sunday evening. Ouch. But they managed to get the tough win. Sean Evans got the win (2-0). A lot of nice fielding for the Jags in this one. Ryan Sams hit the ball pretty well, including a solid triple. The Jags played a lot of 'small ball' to get their hits. Sams, Daniel Smith, & Ryan Howell all scored for the Jags. They are playing today (Monday) as well and at last report, Sams was on the mound and the Jags were tied 1-1 (not sure of opponent). :thumb:
statmanhensley Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Thomas Worthington has had some really good teams from the years that I saw them down in Florida. This is a great win for the Jags. Doesn't North Laurel have some guys that have been on varsity for quite a while now? Oh and the games are actually played in Cocoa FL at the Cocoa Expo. Cocoa Beach is about a 10-15 minute drive away. I hope I don't sound like a meanie by making this correction. Sorry.

They lost some good players from last year's squad (Parsley stands out as he was their lone left handed pitcher), however, players like Chris Maggard (3rd), Sean Evans (pitcher), & Ryan Sams (pitcher) have been giving them varsity time for the past few years. Evans was tied with Parsley last year with 5 wins when he was a sophomore, Maggard won the starting 3rd base spot as a sophomore, and Sams has been one of their power pitchers the past few seasons (sr this year). Shawn Boroviak did not play last year, but coming back this year and bulked up from football, he has much more power than he had when he was a sophomore. David Jones has quite a bit of varsity experience, etc. They do have a good mix of experience and young talent this year.

MountainThunder Posted April 4, 2006 Author Posted April 4, 2006 Ryan Howell? Thanks Jim, I forgot all about Ryan. Another kid (senior this season) who has been a varsity player the past few years! Good save!!! :thumb:
MountainThunder Posted April 4, 2006 Author Posted April 4, 2006 Minor detail: Cocoa Beach, but Coco Crisp. I am sorry about that. And I know people all over the area. I guess I got in too much of a hurry on that one. My bad!
