8th region favorite Oldham County crosses the county to tangle with 29th district rival North Oldham on Friday in a girl/boy doubleheader.

 

Oldham is 2-0 in the district with a 35 point win over Trimble Co and a 29 point win over South Oldham.

 

North is 1-0 in the district with a 35 point win over Trimble.

 

Oldham gets the #1 seed in the post-season tourney with a win; North puts themselves in the drivers' seat for the #1 seed with a win.

 

Who wins and why?

 

Oldham is the deepest team in the region, with a lot of players capable of double-digit scoring games. The Colonels have multiple players who can run point, and have young players who have made tremendous strides. The Colonels don't have a lot of size, but 6'5" Jacob Bates has really come on of late at both ends of the floor.

 

North is perhaps the team with the biggest "upside" in the region. Travis Brown was a tremendous addition to the team this year, and the raw 6'4" senior is a powerful inside force, and will likely be performing at a double-double clip by February. Jonathan ("Jon-Jon") Henry is a candidate for 8th Region POY at 24 points per game and 6 rebounds; he has ridiculous range and is one of the best penetrators in the region.

 

Two of the 8th region's brightest up-and-coming coaches; 2nd year man Coy Zerhusen at Oldham and first year coach Rob Burton at North.

Should be a fun game to watch. I think Oldham wins with their depth. Good guards in this game!
