Eastern hits a three with 3 seconds left to earn a well deserved victory at Sacred Heart. This was an exciting game with many twists that both teams can learn from to become contenders at the end of the season.

 

Porter was a huge matchup problem for SHA as she controlled the game with her ability to get into the paint for high percentage shots and recorded a huge double/double with 13pts and 17 rebounds. I was also impressed with the energy level of both teams in this game. Both teams made too many mistakes, but should improve in this area as the season progresses and the younger players become battle tested.

 

There was a lot of young talent on the floor that should make each team competitive not only this year, but for the next three years. Eastern's 8th grader Kinnard is a player to watch. She did pull down 6 rebounds and is very athletic with good ball skills. The freshman Smith and Goulding also brought energy and skill to the game only committing one turnover between them.

 

Sacred Heart's freshman also came to play with Sivils having a breakout game scoring 12 pts to go with 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Samsel is also coming along and gaining confidence shooting a high percentage and gaining more and more playing time. She also contributed 7 points 1 assist and zero turnovers in 17 minutes of action. Berger added 10 points and is very skilled with the ball. She had 5 rebounds in the game. As the chemistry gets better and they understand what the coach needs them to do on the court, this team should dramatically improve.

 

Foul trouble was also a big factor in this game for both teams with many of their top players getting into early foul trouble.
