Apollo 2014/2015

Featured Replies

Basketball season for 2014/2015 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Apollo . Remember, please be constructive.

Well, i had extremely high expectations for the Eagles this season until I watched them get dismantled on Saturday at the hands of Doss. Yes, it was a scrimmage and it meant nothing but 40 points?? So I have lowered my expectations a touch and we'll see how the Eagles do going forward. Here is a quick breakdown of the team......

The Eagles have a brand new head coach in Steve Barker. Barker took a Mclean County program that has been traditionally bad and made them very respectable the past 2-3 seasons. He is a former Apollo Eagle himself. He was a part of the 78 Apollo team that went 35-0 in the regular season. Barker has set the expectations high for the 2014/15 season.

Apollo is led by one of the best juniors in the state in Eli Wright. The kid is electric and should be the best player in western Kentucky. He is complimented by senior forward Caleb Coomes. Coomes is about 6-6 and very tough in the paint. Caleb won MVP of Rick Bolus' camp over the summer. Ben Moss will lead the team at the point. Moss improved a lot over the summer. He showed very well in the futures 500 camp in Nashville. Barker is looking to Moss to step in and run his offense. Chase Survant is a junior defensive specialist who has stood out in fall practice. He will be a vital part of Barkers full court pressure defense. Survant can also shoot the ball. Nate & Zach Hopwell, Jason Taylor & Nick Wells will all contribute. Apollo should have solid depth with 7 seniors on the roster.

Apollo will face a very tough schedule. Aside from playing in a loaded 9th district(OHS, Catholic & Daviess County), the Eagles will play a lot of very talented team this season. They will face Bowling Green in the opening round of the OIT & are a part of a loaded Republic Bank tournament at LexCath. They will face Hoptown, Henderson and Madisonville North Hopkins in their out of region schedule.

If the Eagles can put it together under Barker they have the potential to make a deep run at Rupp.
