There was no score in the first half.

 

In second half, Lucas Wheel lofted the ball from the back line of Boone's defense. Highlands defense was playing a little up so the ball landed just beyond them and rolled toward the goal. Highlands keeper had to make a decision on whether to stay back or come out and get the ball. Mayberry shifted into a higher gear and got their just before the keeper and dribbled around him. The defenders couldn't catch up and Mayberry tapped it into the net. Boone 1 Highlands 0. No team could manage another score though Boone continued to put the pressure on. Highlands had several corner kicks in the game but couldn't get the ball to go in. They also had opportunity with a free kick not far out from Boone's goal but again the Rebels were able to coax the ball up the field in the other direction.

 

It was nice to play on artificial turf in contrast to the mud bowl against Conner and Cooper last week. This was some good soccer and the turf allowed both teams to play their game.

 

Boone plays St Henry Thursday at 8 pm at Tower Park.

Ball was played back, Breslin went for the clearance, misread his steps, the Boone offender got a quick touch past him and it was an easy tap in from there. Scored with about 6 minutes left but highlands werent able to even get an attack together at that point.

Congrats to Boone County... they did what they needed to do. No surprise that the winning goal came from Mayberry. He is a always a threat and came through when it counted. Sorry to see Highlands season end, but after on 0-6-3 start they acquitted themselves well in the second half of the season to end 9-9-5. Good luck to Boone County going forward.
