If you all want more objectiveness to the rankings get on your coaches to actually submit their vote. Everyone has the chance each week.

 

I am not sure that would give it more objectiveness, I think the coaches poll is more subjective because it only takes into account a coaches feelings/opinions. The Maher ranking is more objective because it is based on data.

No argument there, but I would think even with more subjective votes it would weight itself towards a more objective poll. I know that sounds ridiculous. However, when the coaches vote the feelings and opinions are usually based on recent results, strength of schedule, etc... just don't have fancy calculations.

That makes sense to me... Don't forget, we are talking about soccer coaches here... we do not want to make it tough on them by throwing in some fancy calculations.

Probably because one is Subjective and the other is more Objective.

 

I would also add that in the Maher Rankings, teams currently ranked between 10-25 would pretty well be a toss-up if they were to handicap the match.

 

Yellow Card, I think that is about right...the gap between #10 (Scott) and #25 (John Hardin) is 1.68 Maher points, which tells me that how teams have been playing, whether they are missing key players, how they match up, and the strategy they take going into games will have more influence than their current Maher rating.

 

At the same time, the gap between #10 and #4 is 3.41 Maher points. The Region 9 winner will likely be facing either Dunbar (#3) or Henry Clay (#4). We'll be hoping for Maher upsets, but the only loss to a KY team that either team suffered all season was Dunbar's 2-1 loss to Henry Clay.

 

I'd love to see the Maher system fall flat on its face post-season and have a NKY boys team playing in... and winning... the state finals on November 8th. Not impossible, but it would take a very special run.

Just like it wasn't a good year last year for the 10/11 matchup (Brossart/PLD), followed by PLD beating the 9/12 winner (Highlands).

 

Bottom line .. Region 11 is ALWAYS a bad matchup (along with Region 7)!
