Fairdale built a 14-0 lead in the third quarter of this defensive struggle. Nelson cut it to 14-7 in the fourth and had the ball late with a chance to tie or win but turned it over on downs. Cards suffered a big blow with an injury to lead back Charlie Berry, who went for 563 yards and nine scores combined the two previous games.
