LongTimeReader Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Last Week St. X 35 Trinity 21 Record 5-2 Recap After seven meetings between St. X and Trinity, the Tigers were able to walk out of the Pizza Palace with a win over rival Trinity. As fans we hope for great weather and for the officials to not take over the game, well the rain showed up right before kick off and the game started with a number of penalties. The St. X defense was what many followers said had to hold up if the Tigers were going to knock off the Shamrocks, and they sure did. The Tigers defense forced fumbles and help Trinity to three and outs to start the game, which in return set up the St. X offense with great field position. After the Tiger defense recovered a fumble on Trinity's first offensive possession, the Tiger offense moved the ball into field goal range. Unfortunately, the Tigers were not able to convert the field goal, but Trinity was still pinned back deep in their own territory. The Tiger defense held and the offense was set up with great field position. The St. X offense has struggled in finishing drives this season, but on their second drive they did just that. Sophomore Blake Roshkawski capped of the drive with a 16 yard touchdown run on a jet sweep, and after that score the Tigers were ahead the entire game. The Tiger TEAM played great in building a 21-0 leading and even when Trinity scored to create some momentum, the Tigers found a way to answer and control the game. Senior QB Noah Houk played the way many thought of him during the offseason. He finished the game 9 - 20 for 186 yards and 3 TDs and 1 INT. In addition to showing off his passing ability, Houk also showed his ability to pick up yards with his feet. This a game that Houk can build on and use as a confidence builder as district play continues and the playoffs near. Running back Taijon Smith was effective in both the running and passing game. His stats were not eye popping, but he was able to be a consistent factor in running the football and in the passing game where he took a screen pass roughly 50 yards (some of the yardage was negated by a penalty). The Tiger defense did a great job in forcing turnovers and bottling up Trinity's running back Donald Brooks, which was key for the Tigers to be successful. The Tigers held Donald Brooks to around 60 yards of rushing. St. X did a great job of getting Trinity off the field when they scored on offense so they were able to put their offense back on the field in good position. Congratulations Coach Wolford, staff, and players for beating rival Trinity!
