WatThe Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Three very quick goals from St. Henry in the first half, which resulted in Simon Kenton pushing everyone back and playing defensively for the rest of the game. Goals by Lannon (2) Sanders (1). I only saw two assists, one by Lannon, one by Meyer I think.

the_pulpit Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Tony Yates... UC/UK.... sorry, tongue in cheek from 30yr ago....
whatsalenyou Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Looks like someone woke up this team. They have played much better over the past two games. Passing, defense and work rate have been much better and they seem to be putting things together. The changes they made seem to be paying off at this point.

I don't know of a coach in this area that would purposely pack it in like they're playing Barecelona. Usually what people see as sitting back in playing defense/packing it in/pushing everyone back is what I'd like to call offensive presence by the other team. If a team pressures the other the entire game and possesses most of the game they're forced to play defense. They didn't do this against Scott, didn't do it against Cooper (right Yellow Card?)... which one could argue have more fire power up top. Can't see them doing this against St. Henry.

They definitely did not do it against Cooper. As I remember, the third, and decisive goal was scored when SK defenders doubled the man with the ball to make sure he did not turn into the box. The Cooper player was able to split the defenders with a heel kick that found his teammate alone with the goalie... this could not have happened if they were packing it in.

HHS coach did it against cchs and it worked perfectly..9 or 10 in the box all game......a very good strategy...
unbiasedcoach Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 HHS coach did it against cchs and it worked perfectly..9 or 10 in the box all game......a very good strategy... Might have been one of the threads I was referring to. Not Matthew's style... but like others say "it's what I saw"
Sir! Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Getting numbers behind the ball is just good defending. If a team doesn't push up out of the back when they win the ball and transition to attack with more than 2 or 3 players then I think its fair to say they are "parking the bus."
Sir! Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 HHS coach did it against cchs and it worked perfectly..9 or 10 in the box all game......a very good strategy... If by "in the box" you mean "in the defensive third" then that sounds plausible. If by "all game" you mean, "when HHS was defending, which was most of the game" then that sounds plausible too.
whatsalenyou Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Forgot to say that the game was well officiated and that it was a clean game. if you complain when they are bad, you need to give them props when they are good. Good luck to SK in the Districts and the remainder of their season.
