Claymont (OH) 55 Rosecrans 20 (OH)

Featured Replies

The Mustangs wasted no time in lighting up the scoreboard in this one. One the games first play from scrimmage Tim Zurcher, the 6-3 203 pound senior quarterback connected with Brennan McGarry, who was wide opened for a 65 yard touchdown only :13 into the game. Tarin Rauch increased the lead to, 7-0. This was a one play 65 yard drive for the Mustangs.

Rosecrans, who only dressed 15 players tonight would respond to the visitors score by driving 57 yards on 7 plays. The scoring play came from a 1 yard quarterback sneak by Michael Fisher. The play to set up the scoring drive was a long pass by Fisher to #7 (not on the roster I have) that took the ball down to the one yard line. The point after kick by Lane Daily locked this one at,7 with 9:12 remaining in the quarter.

With 4:19 showing on the clock Claymont would get a 14 yard catch by Tarin Rauch, who made a nice run after the catch.

Just :10 seconds later the Mustangs got a 14 yard run from Keaton Herron.

Zurcher would hook up with Travis Hemper for a gain of nearly thirty yards, with 3:49 left in the quarter.

Herron would end the 7 play 84 yard drive by running through a huge hole opened up by his front line. The point after kicked made this a, 14-7 Mustangs lead, with 2:58 left.

Claymont got the ball back and went right back to work and when the quarter ended they had the ball on the Rosecrans one yard line.

With :39 left in the quarter Rauch hauled in a pass and turned it into a 16 yard gain, and then with :31 seconds left Herron took the ball 22 yards to the Home teams one yard line.

2nd quarter

The Mustangs needed one play and four seconds of the 2nd quarter to score again. The scoring play was a one yard run by Herron, who took the snap out of the shotgun formation. The Mustangs converted a two point run by holder Brian Ruffini to make this a, 22-7 game. The drive totaled 48 yards and needed just 4 plays.

Herron would pick a pass thrown by Fisher, that had been tipped by a teammates number that I missed, with 11:00 left in the half.

After getting the ball back from the Herron the Mustangs got a 19 yard catch from Rauch with 10:24 left in the quarter.

The Rosecrans defense would show some life when Travis Johnston hit Rauch for a 7 yard loss at the 10:05 mark.

Zurcher connected with Justice Avery for a 13 yard score with 8:59 left, after the point after the Mustangs had a, 29-7 lead.

5:17 left in the have when 5-11 239 pound defensive tackle scooped up a Rosecrans fumbled and rumbled about 50 yards for a touchdown but just has he steeped into the end zone a teammate committed an unnecessary penalty taking away the lineman's score.

Claymont would again use a one play drive after the penalty to light up the scoreboard again. The score came on 34 yard pass from Zurcher to Herron. The point after kick made the, 36-7 with 2:37 left in the quarter.

The Mustangs would get a pick from Ruffini on a Fisher pass with 1:27 left.

This one was way past over as the two teams came out of the Locker room, which I think many figured it would be especially since Rosecrans is so thin on numbers, but not heart. This small group of high school players seem to give it 100% effort no matter what the scoreboard says.

Third Quarter

The quarter started out with another Fisher pick, this one by Thomas Edwards, with 10:17 showing on the clock. Edwards took the pick all the way to the Rosecrans four yard line as he picked up about 40 yards on the run after the pick.

The four yard drive needed 2 plays before the scoreboard would change again.

The scoring play was a one yard Rauch run. The point after kick kick made the score, 42-7.

The Rosecrans offense which featured a lot of runs up the gut would be shutdown again by the Mustangs forcing a punt with a little over 7:00 left in the quarter. The punt was fielded by Herron and he did not stop running until he had gone 53 yards for another score. A two point conversion pass was well defended causing it to fall incomplete and leaving the score, 48-7 Mustangs.

The misery continued for Rosecrans with 6:21 left in the third Fisher would be picked off by #6, who's not on the roster I have. #6 would make about a 40 yard return after the pick , setting up his offense at the Rosecrans one yard line.

From there it was Brandon Patterson scoring on a one yard run. The point after kick gave the Mustangs a, 55-7 lead.

As I stated earlier this small group from Rosecrans shows not quit no matter what and that attitude would show big time as they would score twice to end this game.

The first score came on a 1 yard run by Travis Johnston, who was busy on the drive.

The point after was blocked by, I believe Rauch, leaving the score 55-13.

The drive totaled 76 yards and lasted five plays.

Fourth Quarter

Fisher #5 would go 16 yards for the games final touchdown and then the final point came on the point after kick, making this a 55-20 final.
