JohnnyDrama Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Something I want to try with y'all: a what-if game, where I list a scenario and you tell me how you would handle things. Up first: Fort Knox. The Eagles are 0-5 and have only been competitive in one game (not counting the weather-shortened game against Elizabethtown). They've been held to one touchdown or less in their other four games and their single wing attack isn't moving the ball very well. They've got a couple of good players in Escoffery and Irving, the only two kids back from last season, but had to start five freshmen on defense against Bardstown last week. Fort Knox is dropping to 1A next year, which should help some. They'll be in a district with Berea, Bethlehem, Campbellsville and Caverna. What if you were in charge? What things would you want to change and what things would you want to keep? How would you get kids to come out for the team and keep them on the team?

I think the KHSAA modified their district, moving Berea back east. That means, first and foremost, Fort Knox will make the playoffs next season. That should be one positive moving forward. 05/13/14 ? With parents transferring to and from the base, it is hard for Fort Knox to have a good gauge from one year to the next as to what to expect from their players. With the base getting smaller and smaller, there are fewer kids available (thus the move to 1A), which hurts things even more. I commend the coaching staff at Fort Knox but I honestly have no idea how to approach their unique situation.
JohnnyDrama Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 Before anyone thinks I'm implying something with this thread, I'm not. Combs is one of the good guys out there, and his staff is solid. I was just curious as to what folks thought about Fort Knox's situation which, as gchs pointed out, changes from year to year. I don't think that's something I could deal with as a head coach. It's hard to build anything when you don't know who's going to return and who you'll be missing every year. I know they had one player whose dad got PCS'd a few years ago before the season even ended -- and he was a senior. So please, don't make this into anything it's not.
