Got to this one 15 minutes into the game and the Breds up 1-0, courtesy of a Loren Zimmerman goal. With about 5 minutes left in the half St. Henry gets a goal on a penalty kick (call was BOGUS). NewCath goalie, Meg Martin, secures the ball on a shot on goal, and with the nearest St. Henry player 5 to 7 feet away, raises her arms and throws them from one side to the other. The Ref issues a Yellow Card for swing her elbows (this is how I understood the call....I'm not hip to soccer rules), Martin leaves the field and Zimmerman goes into goal for the penalty kick. St. Henry player just does get into the goal to tie things up at 1-1.

 

2nd half both teams had opportunities to soccer, but come up empty.

 

NewCath is 8-0-1 on the season and play Saturday at 6:00 at Moscher Field against Brossart in the All "A" Sectional for the right to travel to E-town for the All "A" State Tournament.

I wasn't surprised to hear that the yellow card came out. They are really trying to cut down on the "in your face" and other body language that can instigate a physical altercation. I have watched KINGS Soccer and know that move the goalie makes. It is a habit and I am sure it won't happen again, lesson will be taken. I thought this would have been a much different outcome as NCC beat Dixie 4-1 and St. Henry beat Dixie on a PK at the end of regulation. Saturday will be a great game to watch.

In the 15 minutes I was able to see, I saw a St Henry team that seemed to be worried more about the weather than the game.....They just didn't seem focused.. IMHO.

 

The first NCC goal went this way.......St Henry player misplays a clear and it goes over the touch line for the corner. NCC plays a short corner and it is defended well but deflected out for another corner. Long corner this time and it bounces in the box and goes right to the NCC player for the nice volley. Too far out for the St. H keeper to come out and play, but not sure why it wasn't cleared by the two St H players it bounced between....

 

Then I loaded up "Abby the Labby" into the truck and we headed out.........Now you know who I am....

 

On another note...first itme down to NCC this year.......Nice scorboard.....
