Yellow Card Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Goals Snow-2, Workman Assists O'Brien, Snow, Adams Logan Williams had his best night of the year... 5th clean sheet of the season!!!
Yellow Card Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I will say that this was a very nice match to watch last night, both teams came out with a lot of energy and the pace of the first 10 minutes of soccer would rival some indoor matches that I have seen. This was not to say that either team was just kicking it up and down the pitch, the soccer was good, it was just at a very fast pace. Both teams settled in... or maybe just tired themselves out... about 15 minutes into the match. Once the match slowed a little, Scott Co did a very good job of working to possess the ball as they tried to methodically work the ball into Cooper's defensive third of the field. I have not seen them play before so I am not clear if this is the norm for them, or if it was a tactic to limit the amount of chances that Cooper would have in transition. When Cooper did regain possession they were clearly using the large field, and their speed on the outside, to their advantage. In the first half, the defense of Cooper had some trouble adjusting to the speed of the grass they were playing on, Logan Williams was on his game last night and was able to turn away a few good chances that the Cardinals had early in the match. Fairly late in the first half, Cooper was awarded a free kick right in front of the Scott Co bench, probably about 40-45 yards out. O'Brien played a perfect ball towards the far corner of the six, Snow was able to track it down and get his head on it, sending it back across the face of the goal into the back corner for a 1-0 lead at half. Both teams came out strong again to start the second half... did I mention this was a good match to watch... this might also be a good time to mention that the Scott Co. students added to the enjoyment. They were not what I would call very well versed in soccer, but they were very supportive of their boys, in was nice to see. I also wish I knew the name of #15 from Scott Co, I was quite impressed by his show of sportmanship/respect last night. On one of the saves that Willams made, this young man actually walked up to our keeper and shook his hand after he got up, all before Williams actually had a chance to put the ball back in play. Cooper started the same way in the second half, definitely trying to use the fields size to their advantage, they continued to attack from the outside. About 5 minutes into the second half, Snow had the ball in space on the outside but chose to pull up just over midfield and hit a driven ball to the opposite side of the field. This pass cleared their back line and found the foot of Workman on a dead run, he was able to flick it over the goalie for a 2-0 lead. Both teams continued to play well in the second half, with Cooper having a 2 goal lead they seemed content to play some defense and when Scott Co was able to get a shot off, Williams was there to turn it away. About half way through the second half, Cooper had a free kick just inside of midfield. Adams played a ball to the top of the box, after an errant bounce, Snow volleyed the ball into the back corner for the final margin. With about 10 minutes left in the match, the Scott Co coach sent in mass substitutions, I assume they were probably the JV squad. This group was just as skilled, and with fresh legs, kept Williams on his toes to the end. Williams last save of the night, probably about his 7th, or 8th, was made with just 2 seconds on the clock.... giving him another shutout.
dww2873 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Good read yellow card...good luck to Cooper thursday night, they are really playing well! Undefeated with 5 shutouts??? Looking more and more like they should be regarded as a team to beat in nky!
